Zoe, I have a friend that works in the patrol division at the Sheriffs Office, he told me back in March that all jail personnel got a $250.00 a month raise while the enforcement patrol division got 0. Now the jailers are making more money than the patrol officers who are the ones protecting us. He said they told him that it was due to no one applying to work at the sheriffs office. He also told me that they pay you to go to college and give you more money if you have a college degree. Wow I didnt know you could do that with public funds.

well, remember, he (sheriff) is a professor, not a law enforcement professional as such. Education is a wonderful thing to encourage, but practicality would be better. I think jailors should make $25,000 a year minimum. Patrol should start around $30-35,000 per year, and there should be more of them. They should step in and do what the city seemingly does not want; patrol neighborhoods.

Has our sheriff lost his mind completely or is he just trying to intimidate us into funding a new facility ? I cannot see the rationale of not incarcerating people who are arrested when we all know the jail has a lot of room if the D O C prisoners were sent back to Baton Rouge. There is no justification for housing state inmates, work release inmates etc. at the expense of our public safety. And now he wants to start a bag factory ?
