I just read an article in "The Daily Liartiser" about a bus system, that brings people from FEMA tent city to the bus station in Lafayette, is being discontinued. Then I had to ask myself, "After more than two years, why are people still living in these trailers?"
After some research I found that they get free utilities, rent, and water. No wonder they're not leaving! I even found some pictures of these people having satellite dishes installed! Last time I checked, DirecTV isn't free, so these folks certainly have money. I liken these people to the proverbial 25-year old still living with his parents. Why leave you've got it so good?
No one wants to be the "bad guy" and kick these people out. After all, they lost everything and it would be PR suicide to evict our fellow Louisianians.
What can we do?

probably for the same reason as the lady in New Orleans who very vocally objected to the Orleans Parish Council tearing down the various housing projects, her home for the past 47 years. Aren't these supposed to be "short term" residences ?
I do not care if they have Direct tv, they probably do not have cable in the parks, but it is past time to shut them down, and the trailers are not safe anyway.
BTW, life is not so good in those trailers; have you ever seen one ? I promise you would not want to be in there for more than a weekend. It is not so good, only cheap, and one step above the street.

Its time to close the Fema trailers down and let them buy their own trailers if they want to stay, but of course they would have to get a job and the last time I looked there were job openings all across this city, remember MCDonalds having to look at bringing in Romanian people to work because nobody wanted the jobs. So finding a job is not difficult, wanting one is the problem, they have lived their entire lives on money from me and you and don't want to work, why should they.
First of all many of the fema trailers are vacant and getting torn up, these trailers were brand new when they were sent into these trailer parks and the landlords of these already established old trailer parks on the northside of Lafayette are sucking dry the federal funds. They get paid for each lot with a fema trailer on it, occupied or not.
