I find that interesting because many people of liberal ideologies are always preaching about how corporations and businesses are overrunning American citizens. aint that the truth

Wow, a River Ranch for the northside. And Chris Williams says the North is being ignored.

I think the time has come to form a new group to study actual consolidation for Lafayette Parish to put before the voters. True consolidation so there are no more city/parish/other municipality issues to be resolved, only parish issues.

Back I January I made the obversation the www.joeydurel.com was no longer "up and running." After visiting the site at web.archive, I can see why. The site is, or rather, would be an Albatross around Joey's neck. The promises he made vs what has been delivered are a revelation. Everyone should visit the archived site and see for themselves what was promised by candidate Joey and what has been delivered president Joey.

Carl Tritschler has an excellent editorial in today's fish wrap. Please take the time to read it. These elected officials want ALL of OUR money. Guess they think our energy costs aren't high enough huh?

Good article even though it depressed the hell out me, thanks for the post. Of course Lafayette has to do better than everybody else like establishing fiber, so we might as well pay more sales and fuel taxes, brilliant, I love people who make more money than me deciding that I need to pay more money Heres a link directly to bill 245 www.legis.state.la.us/billdata/streamdocument.asp?did=383232I like this part, you think it was met for lafayette Section 1. R.S. 33:2738.85 is hereby enacted to read as follows: §2738.85. Authorization to levy and collect additional sales and use tax 8 A.(1) Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, the governing authority of any parish having a population in excess of one hundred eighty seven thousand, but fewer than one hundred ninety-one thousand people as determined by the most recent federal decennial census, may levy and collect an additional one percent sales and use tax pursuant to the provisions of Article 13

Carl was correct on observations regarding the fiber issue as well.
There was a time when there was a difference in Republicans(less Govt intrusion) and the Democrats (big brother). I must conclude that people like Durel/Michot/Coinrad Comeaux have jumped on the republican wagon because most voters (me included) believe that thay were in fact anti-big govt., when that is not true. Michot is a huge disappointment, and I will not vote for any of the current officials because they are not a friend of working people. There interest is building a bigger bureaucracy.

I must assume that whoever runs for parish president will make Mr Durel eat his words. I went to the site, and it is a shame that our ace reporters have not done the same; all politicians should be held accountable for their platforms.
Speaking of which, was an article in paper regarding cost of responding to private alarms in Lafayette, and the cost of same. Well, isn't that why we have a police department ? It is their job to follow up on complaints. And our paper says we "saved" $640,000 by reduced alarm calls last year . Really? Where did all of those "savings" go ? The fact is the police are paid whether they sit in the office, respond to alarms, eat donuts or whatever. There are no savings, but does the paper question the report? NO. The paper states it as fact without question and leaves it to us peons to fugure out.

I wish we had a real newspaper that would keep us informed about our officials, either good or bad. It is almost impossible to know what is really going on.

Joey Durel said in 2003, "We sure aren’t finishing any of our capital improvement projects “on time”. (from his archived website at http://www.archive.org) Well, Mr. Durel, how many capital improvement projects have been finished on time under your administration?
How many projects have been started and ground to a complete halt for whatever reason?
Almost 4 years later, the South College Road Extension has still not been started and this is under your administration. Mr. Durel, you asked "Why haven’t we begun to build the South College Road and Bridge project from Pinhook to Kaliste Saloom? Why haven’t we begun to build South College Road Extension from Market Place to Verot School Road? " in 2003, now in 2006, we ask why?
How many new employees has the LCG hired since you have been President?
"Have we as taxpayers witnessed such an improvement in government services to account for that increase in expenditure?" That is your question, Mr. Durel, not mine. You stated "PROMISES
We will deliver on the promises that were made in the past but haven’t yet been fulfilled.
We will complete the Capital Improvement projects necessary for Lafayette’s growth.
We are going to deliver on the promises of a consolidated government.
We will Reconvene the charter commission to develop an action plan of the steps required to realize the benefits of consolidation
We will Audit the promises – give you an honest answer on what hasn’t been delivered and why.
We will Open the City-Parish government to the people… we are going to make the books more available to the public (online, libraries) "
What about your promises, Mr. Durel? I surmise that your promises make very good fertilizer for my garden.

I can't believe it, I really can't. joey never ceases to amaze me. All I hear from him and his little fuzz ball side kick is ...we don't have the money for this or that.. But alas, joey and his buddies have found enough of OUR tax money to give every lcg employee a 4% across the board raise. If my figures are correct, that works out to be just a little over $2,000,000.00 a year, every year from here on out. Now you add to that the measly little $1,000,000.00 of our local tax dollars that our good buddy greg gotrow just handed over to a foreign company and whamo we got lotsa money. Now joey go on tv a cry us some more tears about how tough it is money wise here in lafayette. Hey Johnny how ya feel about that?

The part I like abbd, is that the workers have not had a raise in years. the "step" increases given annually are not considered raises. Talk about doublespeak.

i think joey is gonna give the 2,000 plus lcg employees a nice fat 4% raise to insure that the employees, their families and their friends, government hangers on etc. will vote to increase our taxes. Heck that's one big advantage to the government being the largest employer in the area, lotsa votes lots and lotsa votes. I asked how can these bozos continue to seize more and more of our money, and the answer was.... because we let them. Yes that's correct we keep voting for people who say one thing and vote differently than they tell us. I bet you most of the people you know have no idea how their duncilman or state lege vote on taxes, heck or on anything else for that matter. Ignorance is bliss. I hear all the time that so and so is conservative, then I ask have you looked up their voting record?

Joey certainly is a generous guy with taxpayers' money. I do have to say that the LCG employees are underpaid. When I first came back to Lafayette, I went on the City/Parish's website where they post jobs and I had to laugh at the wages. Since that time, it appears that the salaries have gone up though.
Maybe Joey is one of those liberal/conservative hybrid we hear about. It's funny that he never mentioned the employee pay raises and one cent sales tax increases when we voted to OK bond renewals a few weeks ago.

HA! I just read in the fishwrap that the LCG council will create a resolution banning signs or banners for display without the permission of the entire duncil. This won't affect citizens who can still bring in their own signs. Our council has nothing better to do. Stevenson is acting really childish now. For a council to officially take time out of a meeting, where they're supposed to be helping the city of Lafayette, only to pass such a resolution is pathetic. Do we really need such a measure? It's just another way to embarrass Williams (which normally I don't mind), but we need to get down to the business of serving the people. Quit with the vendettas!

Underpaid !!?? You should check out the LUS payroll. And do not forget the leave benefits, or the retirement benefits. We should have it so bad.
