It is because different citizens frequent the buses than the ones who use the golf courses. Most of the people who use buses are working minimum wage jobs, and have no other means of transport. At least they are trying to get by and earn a living. There is nothing fair about it.

Today, 15 August 2007, I received a recorded telephone message at my home from our esteemed Mayor, Joey Durel, on behalf of Bobby Jindal, his "good friend" and candidate for governer. Mr. Durel was soliciting my vote for Mr. Jindel. I immediately wondered if it was legal for Mr. Durel to do this, it is; and then wondered if it was ethical. Imagine my surprise when I spoke with a City of Lafayette employee who already knew of these calls because Lafayette City employees are receiving the very same calls at their desks at City Hall. Is Mr. Durel so arrogant that he believes he has the right to telephone city employees, who are precluded from campaigning on city time for their own chosen candidates, during working hours. What do we pay Mr. Durel for? He has already stated publically that we don't pay him enough; hence his land deal with Robert Daigle/River Ranch, to "take care of his family". Are we now paying city employees to use their time to listen to political solicitations? I have given this information to KATC-TV 3. Whether they will run with the story or not is yet to be seen. Unfortunately, the city employees who are receiving these calls at their desks are afraid to go public because the atmosphere at City Hall is so toxic these days. They are afraid of losing their jobs.

Do you mean to say that Joey Durel, the greatest mayor we have ever had in Lafayette (per Glen Armentor, Mr 98.5%) does not tolerate free speech from public employees. That makes him just like Doc Neustrom, our sheriff, Lewis Perret, our clerk of court, and Conrad Comeaux, our tax assessor, all of whom will fire public employees for a mere disagreement or public utterance contrary to what the official line (propoganda)may be. Yet another reason for them to be unemployed by us voters. I would like to see any of them go out and make $125,000 at any job they are capable of handling, because I do not think they can. Look at their previous jobs, they surely were not making that then.
I got one of those calls as well. Makes me want to vote against Jindal on principle.

Any politician who makes employees SIGN an agreement acknowledging that they are "at will" employees and swear an oath of allegiance to that official has undoubtedly lost sight of his authority, position and his own oath ie. to uphold laws of this state. No one has the right to intimidate public employees; after all, they work for the public, not the official. The official is an administrator.
why should parish employees feel any degree of fear for the simple act of disagreeing. We are not talking open rebellion here. I would not want an employee actively campaigning against me, but they do have a constitutional right of free spech, and should not fear their job over political disagreement.

Sounds like double standards, I had a relative that word for the PD and she could not even have signs in her yard nor could she be affiliated with campaigning, even in her off time. And these gastapo like tactics these politicians use against their employees that effect their lives and families will backfire one day, and they wonder why employees go postal.

I had heard that "DR." Williams had received his doctorate through an “on-line” University. Well, his announcement in the daily fish wrap confirms it, Union Institute & University. The University is accredited by “The Higher Learning Commission” and a member of the North Central Association. If you check on their website, the University nor commission is NOT recognized in Louisiana.
Big whoop for Chris.
If this turkey gets elected to the House, he and constituents deserve each other.

I always was under the impression that Williams had obtained a degree @ USL, not some mail order place. How did Gov Blankstare appoint him as chancellor without proper credentials or qualification ? I would hope he gets exposed for the sham that he is........

And that is why we always come up a little short. Do you think for one moment that Mr Williams would have gotten away with his foolishness in most other states, or would he be a "chancellor" of anything with a 'store bought' diploma. Certainly not.
