T, how in the world were you able to sit there and listen to dunce(for my keeper) speak without bursting out in laughter. Do people really believe this crap? Were there lost of slack jawed bozos there nodding in agrement? Did anyone dare to question dunce? Does he really think that the taxpayers are that ignorant? He balmes the daily disapointment for the woes of his administration??? Wow!!! And to think I voted for this guy.

For the past several days, I have been hearing that sales tax collections are up and up and up over 20 %. I believe that 1 cent on 8 is 12.5%.
So, what do we need the new tax for? What are they doing with the increased sales tax collection from the CURRENT TAXES?
This administration, a republican administration wants money, more money more money more money; kinda like a Tom Cruise movie, show me the money. more sales taxes. more property taxes to build a palace for the Judges, the DA , the Clerk.
When is it going to stop

ABBD, It was hard but I had to do it. I wanted to hear what was being said. There is supposed to be an ad coming out with the names of all the business in favor of the proposed new taxes. I agree with you about boycotting the business places that are in favor of the proposed new taxes.

T, thanks for the information and I hope the "list" is widely publicized. I want to know just who supports the further increase of taxes in this city! Realize if you're a consumer, now anytime you buy 10 of anything, you just paid for dunce and duncilmen to get the eleventh one for free. Man that's not fair is it? Why should I pay for 11 items and only recieve 10? You're a better man than I for sitting and listening to dunce as he spews his drivel.

Well Quest, actually 1 to 4 is 25% increase, so coupled with the already 20-25% increase in current collections, that would imply a total 40-45% increase in revenue. Think what we could bond with that.

And abbd, of course the business support a sales tax, it does not cost them a penny. Cost is passed directly to the consumer. Same reason many prefer a property tax; cost is passed on to a business directly.
I have a novel idea; let the homestead exemption start after the first $25,000. That way, all property owners would pay something. Property would be exempt from $25,000 to $100,000. Actually, the exemption should be increased due to inflation. Limit was set 20 years ago when it meant something.

Anyone going to the Good Government Meeting (used very loosely) on Monday, Oct. 16th. at Don's down town, 6:30pm.? The guess speaker will be Joey Durel; he will be talking about the proposed 1 cent sale tax for roads. Hey, did you see where Mr. Mark Mouton and Mr. Bruce Conque have both declined the 4% pay hike? It's a start. Maybe we could call or email the rest, (administration and council members) encouraging them turn down the pay hike also.

Again, I am leaving for business that Monday morning, but jaguar, if you do go... could you please fill us in on what was said?
Taureau, I also noticed that councilmen Mouton and Conque turned down the raises. It's good for them because they are up for re-election, but you know that those councilmen that are term limited out of office won't reject the raises. I guarantee it. I heard a lot of negative feedback about Conque and Mouton with people saying they'll make that 4% on kickbacks. In my opinion, it's a good gesture and this is the first time I've said anything good about anyone on this council for a long time.

The rejection by some of the 4% increase is nothing more than symbolic BS. If those members wanted to really say something, they would serve without any compensation.
The tax increases need to be voted down, it is time to reign in this government. It is out of control.

Guess, You are correct, they should serve strictly for the betterment of the city and parish. It is a part time position. They should serve their term, then move on and let some one else serve. Maybe if we say it loud and often enough, others may pick up on it and it may sink in. Let's start here.

Here's a lil definition of taxes I just read today....Taxes: an excuse-driven process to take money from the private sector. That money is returned to favored persons after the government deducts its 50% handling fee. .... Any comments?

I'm having "vote no taxes" signs made this week. Any suggestions what they should read? I'm thinking "$70 million court house? Why not $700 million?"

If a TAX is needed to build a new courthouse and then maintain building, why not pass a sales tax for TWO years and pay for it. Then everyone would pay for building including out of town people, and there would be no long term debt, our sales tax would expire at the end of two years and everyone in the courthouse would quit whining about the building.
I also want to know why our clerk of court is so worried about security ? I have been in the courthouse in Baton Rouge, a far more dangerous area than Lafayette (I hope), and there is no security other than metal detectors for each courtroom. You can bring in telephones, cameras, news people can enter building with cameras, you do not have to get undressed to enter, unlike the courthouse and city court as well. Do our officials have a reason to be so fearful ? I do not think we are at the point of shooting incompetent public officials yet.

Just think, we are being taxed so our local government can throw nice parties and feed their friends. Next time you see your property tax bill or your shopping center tax reciept, you should feel good about paying it, cuz dunce, duncil, jabba, terry, the airport commission, various foj's etc. can have fine meals, wine, booze etc. at their swanky "holiday parties" (don't call them Christmas parties, that's not potically correct). Folks if this against the law, it sure as heck should be. Vote NO! Those pigs at the trough are fat enough already.

I can get 500 bumpa stickers made for $247.80. I'll place the order when I can get five people to go in with me. It takes 7 to 10 days to print but being that it is for "no taxes" the lady told me she would try to get them out sooner. Anyone wants 100 stickers for $50? What do you want the stickers to read? We need to get the ball rolling. I'm thinking a large NO on the left side and TAXES on the right side. In the middle in small print I'll have "Free dinners", "Free Mardi Gras Beads", "Free Hawaii Trips", "$70M court house", "Roads that might be built", "RINO'S".

I see dunce spent many many hours over a six month time frame with input from many many people and all he could come up with to solve our problems was a TAX INCREASE? Gimme a freakin break! Any dunce could raise our taxes, where's all that business sense dunce is supposed to have? Think if things were going poorly in one of his "pet shops" the best he could come up with was to raise prices????Guess that's as far reaching thought processes we have here in this city??? What a joke, a pathetic joke and the bad thing is, the joke as usual is on us the taxpayers. Vote NO!
