I had enough of that steele lady when during the Katrina debacle after watching shep smith reporting live from the french quarter, ms steele flatly stated that there was eight FEET of water on bourbon street. I laughed so hard cuz if ya switched back to foxnews, shep was showing a shot down bourbon street and it was DRY! Then bout two weeks ago hoyt had a story as news about a dwarf being swallowed whole by a hippo while falling from a trampoline in thailand . I googled "man swallowed by hippo" and there the story was, it was on the internet since january of 2005 and it was a hoax. I guess we do get what we accept for news around here huh? And we expect "investigative reporting"? Never happen here. so darn sad.

I again wish we would all call Cox cable and request that they follow through with their piping one or two New Orleans channels into Lafayette (WWL & WDSU). We would get some real news and sports (granted not local) and my real hope is it would inspire 3 & 10 to actually report news, not just parrot whatever our fearless leaders want to tell them, and ultimately us.
Our local news teams be it the Advertiser or the television people are poor at reporting any true items. At least in the "old days" Ed Marshall was allowed to follow up on questions from the people in the community who do not have access to the political arena. The Advertiser had "Action Corner" which would field all sorts of questions. I loved to read even the "stupid" questions.

Maybe the reason at least one station parrots releases and forgot how to do investigative stories is because the CAO is married to an anchor.
And I do recall Ed and others of that time in Lafayette. They were darn good at what they did, unlike the so called "reporters" of today.

And "Verot" School Road rhymes with Ross "Perot" not "Rot"!!!! Rant for the day. Thanks. I have been here long enough to know that the road was named for Eloi Broussard, thus, "E. Broussard" road. Shame on the media for making the assumption the the E is for east. They should have enough sense to know that directional names are almost always given in a road name, East Pinhook, West Pinhook, North College, South College. And, of course, portions (but not all) of what is now Ambassador Caffery Parkway were known as New Flanders Road.

HAHA! That is a good one, cma99! I always get a kick out of "newbies" pronouncing Verot incorrectly. You'd think someone would let them know the pronunciation. Way to stay in touch with the community.

For an alternative I have been watching channel 7 out of Lake Charles for weather information. Seems like the 7 guys aren't so full of themselves as the Lafayette folks are. The 7 guy even said we would get rain this morning and what do ya know I was up at 5:30 and whamo it was raining. I believe the channel 4 folks read their press clippings too much and think they are hurricane experts. And if I hear the local yahoos say one more time that we are lucky and to expect more dry weatherr ,like it's a good thing, I think i will scream at them more than I do now. Hey Rob look outside we are in a horrible drought, we don't need to dry out anymore than we are.

Abbd, you can't forget that KATC has the "POWER DOPPLER 3000!" Geesh! How many times have we seen commercials for this weather system. Do we even care? Just tell me if it's going to rain. I know some of the older folks used to guess the next day's weather correctly 100% of the time. "Smells like rain tomorrow" is what they'd say. Sure enough, it rained.
I do enjoy channel 7. Maybe we can do a tradeoff? Ship the entire entire KLPC crew from Lake Charles to Lafayette and we'll give them KATC, KLFY, Louis Benjamin, Chris Williams, Joey Durel, and our beloved Chief of Police to keep tabs on the whole switchover.

It is like a lessor of 2 evils. I used to watch CBS channel 10 but since Dan Rather and his creative style of reporting and his obvious biased towards the left I quit watching them. Now I watch channel 3 news. Both have very inexperienced news casters; goes with the pay. They keep switching from 10 to 3 and back again; they must have administration issues.

Saw Mrs. Dee Stanley at noon today telling us how desperate joey is for more of our money. I wonder if she's worried that if the taxes don't pass, they might have to pay for their own Christmas party this year and maybe dee will have to buy his supper 3 more times a month. Send these tax and spend liberals a message,.... vote NO! Forget fiber, fight crime.

Why is Mrs Stanley reporting anything from that prospective anyway. She should first disclose that she is married to the CAO of the City-Parish, because many do not know that she is Mrs Stanley, not Ms Blue Rolfes. This is sort of like the tax assessor, Mr Comeaux whose wife (goes by maiden name) works for the Advertiser. Again, no disclosure.
I think that this really discredits our news reporting and shows the prejudice, not the supposed impartiality.

Wow, what's Mrs. Comeaux's maiden name? Is she a reporter? Does she write a column? Interesting.

Jackie Lyle. some type of reporter or something. Regardless, works for Advertiser for years (odd that she does not go by Comeaux).

Maria? Is that KLFY's DIVA MARIA? YOU'RE NOT THE BOSS? S-T-A-T-I-O-N M-A-N-A-G-E-R??? What happened to Val Wilson. I miss her! It's sad that KLFY believes in the "token" system. Couldn't she and darla sat on the anchor desk? Chuck is an eye sore!

Actually Jackie Lyle, Conrad Comeaux's wife, is the director for PASA - the Performing Arts Association. Perhaps she writes a column for PASA sometimes in the newspaper, but she is not an employee there. Not sure who came up with that one...

TV 10, what is going on at the Laf Ph District Court House...cameras being installed in the DA's offices & the Clerk's Office & is said it's for security reasons? ? Sure looks good to the public eye that the court house will be supposedly better secured; but is a great cover up for these jokers to watch over their employees, like as in a prison...w/the monitors & all..the DA cannot trust his own employees to the point where cameras are already installed right above their desks !!! This is absolutely outrageous !!! Will they also be installed on top of an Asst DA, as well..& what about the DA, himself & the Clerk...they're the ones who need cameras !! Cops are in the court house every single day wearing guns, walking all around the court house...some have to appear in court, still wearing their guns, while DA & Clerk employees are practically stripped before entering the work place only to be watched by the DA & clerk!!! Sure doesn't lift any stress off the already tense working environments....Bet there will be a turnover in the DA's office before long, as is the case with the Clerk...& they seem to be SO puzzled as to how this turnover in Civil could have happened, whose employees who have been there for 20+ years & even more are there because they had once been treated as an asset..people of worth & value..there was no turnover in the previous administration...& now are in a dilemma. & to think the Clerk twisted the DA's arm into agreeing to these cameras !!! I smell a skunk !!! The DA's office will end up like the Clerk's in no time...they, too, will lose valuable employees. What kind of persuasion could the Clerk have used to cinch the DA's agreement for these cameras And to think the DA bit the bait is a bad sign. Looks like these folks have too much time on their hands to be lording over employees...so now someone will have to be designated to watch monitors all day long...can that be justified in a salary...how can anyone work efficiently under these humanly unethical & intimidating circumstances !! I hear there will be yet another investigation going on because of these cameras. Personally, I am commended by my agents & employees for the way they are treated..it is a relaxed, trusting & fun environment & if there is any stress, it is strictly from the work & not any pressures coming from administration & that makes me proud because without my employees, whom I consider family, I would be nothing in the world of business.
