I have not been a huge fan of the way Dr. Easton has done his job as Superintendant. The past school board enabled him to have all the power, but this new group aren't taking too kindly to him. I hate to say this, but if Easton is dismissed look for this to be made into a black/white issue, which Lafayette has seen enough of within the past couple of years.
Dr. Easton seems to be like President Bush regarding his devotion to those who are loyal to him...even if it hurts the way he is viewed by the citizens in the process.
Probably the biggest gripe I have with officials in general is that they feel they are bigger and better than the people they serve. Dr. Easton has tipped the scales of power in his favor and his simple recommendation can override the final decision of the school board (which directly represents the people).
I think it's time we ask this man to step down...or better yet, not renew HIS contract.

Bubba needed to go, but I dont approve of buying his contract out. Does anyone think that its time to get a super from here instead of going nationwide and keep getting these idiots that think they know what is best for our lives in Lafayette, La.

I do not think Dr. Easton was ever a good fit for Lafayette, and I also think that were he of a different race, he would have been dismissed after the "I'll review the court order and decide whether or not to obey" when he was blocking some kid from graduation. What kind of message does that send to the children ?
Additionally, the school performance scores have been abysmal, and how else does one measure the performance of educators if not on the success of the children? Let's compare to a similar system like St Tammany Parish. They out perform us every year. And the teachers want across the board raises ? If we were graded so poorly at work, we would not hold a job.
I have no problem with hiring outside the system. That is how all good universities hire teachers and administrators. Brings in a fresh perspective. Look at the Lafayette Police Department, a classic example of inbreeding. One bad chief after another. That is because each successive one is part of the system and cannot change what they are part of. Jim Craft. My word. Maybe he should paint houses because he has no idea how crime prevention works.
Back to Easton:I wish his contract would not been renewed and extended by a lame duck school board. Was a poor decision, which will cost us all.

TBear, from what I have seen, maybe we should import all of our politicians from outside the parish. Might be worth a try.
I think someone who is already part of the system would be a poor move simply because whatever "side" they are on, it is a side, and the schools do not need to regress further.

Z I know what you mean, yeah I dont think they should be from the Lafayette System, too many politics involved, but maybe from another system from the surrounding area. At least someone from this area instead of someone from another state that already thinks we are backwards ass people.
