It's really hard to imagine that after forty years of planning, that there are no right turn lanes from camillia on to Johnston. 40 years LOL. As you sit in the far right lane and wait ,what 4 or 5 light cycles, to cross Johnston, two thirds of the traffic in that lane turn right! LOLLOL And some of you want to give these government types more of your money to spend? Unreal.

Is anyone voting this Saturday on the issue of renewal of road bonds? My fearless rep, Benjamin, says that he's against the bond renewal because the funding for roads on the northside are transferred to other areas of the city.
Well, Louie. Perhaps if you hadn't alienated every member of the council (except Williams), you could keep some of those funds on the northside. Although you may not like certain members, there still should be some type of mutual respect in place. My suggestion: Talk it over with Randy Menard at one of these pre-meeting meals.
Sometimes you have to do what is best for the city as a whole. I think that is the biggest problem today with elected officials...no one looks at the big picture. Remember Williams' apology for Markergate? He said, "Again, I apologize for my actions and I will continue to represent the issues of my constituents in district 3." Was there any mention of representing the issues of the people of Lafayette? Not in the least. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't he a LAFAYETTE CITY COUNCILMAN?
Not to contradict myself, but I would like to at least see some of the road funding go to the northside. Just as a show of goodwill. On the other side of the coin, I also see much of the northside funding going elsewhere, which does leave a sour taste in my mouth at times. What I would like to see isn't equal funding for all areas, but at least adequate funding. Even if the northside gets a smaller percentage, at least some projects will be completed.
Finally, Joey is being lazy. He said in the Fishwrap, "If the bond renewal fails Saturday, no new roads will be built in the city." I would've rather heard this statement from him: "If the bond renewal fails, the City/Parish government will have to find funding elsewhere." You see it's like this, Joey, your the leader of our city. It is your job to find the money to complete these projects. Be creative. There needs to be contingency plans, or to make it simple for you, a Plan B. Why is it always up to our tax dollars? How about cutting your Christmas parties? Or free meals? Or trips? That's at least a good ten thousand dollars.
OK. This post is longer than what I originally wanted to write.

I suppose the improvements to Willow, Louisiana Ave, Pont des Mouton, Evangeline Thruway etc. do not count in the eyes of Benjamin/Williams. I believe a priority system is to be established by law, and this should be based on need (call it traffic count), not on geography. I think to not follow such a system, the council would be remiss in their duty.
I think a council member should represent the district he is elected from, but it is hard to understand how issues such as renaming a street when that name has been previously assigned will improve the parish, and the person who dwells on that issue colors on his desk, and thinks that is acceptable and responsible behavior. Each district council member should try and prioritize his district's needs and attempt to act upon this. Failing that, they should look to the good of the parish.
With lame duck council members, I do not see anyone providing leadership. I think a solution would be adding a councilman at large, who could help mediate differences as the mayor appears impotent on the issue of leadership.
With regard to Joey D's idiotic comment, we did not get any new streets with the last bond issue either, so what else is new ? Quit threatening us for not following you & Dee of a cliff.
A quality leader would go to the public and explain the failures as well as the success of each endeavor. In the case of failure, he would explain what was learned and how that would be avoided. That has not happened in Lafayette, nor will it likely.
How about not paying disgraced police officers hundreds of thousands of dollars in "accrued sick leave" like someone is keeping track. If they were, DiBennedetto would not have been working for River Ranch on public time, officers would not be buying and selling illegal drugs, Hundley would not be abusing his authority. They should pay us back for the time stolen from us, not to mention thousands paid for "administrative leave".
And golly gee Joey, what is plan "B"? Sit on your duff and whine ?

well the duncil out did themselves tonight. pulling a fast one by recalling a vote on the stupid road tax JABBA, gets so mad when questioned about. the waited until 2 councilmen left, that were opposed to there tax, so they would not have a 5-4 vote and would have failed. but now the tax will go to a vote in Nov. well i dont live in the city limits, but i have a lot of family that does and will tell them to vote against more taxes.
these bunch of dumba**es all need to leave right now and lets get new blood in there.
btw did yall see JABBA getting mad at everyone when he got questioned and called out.
even better was watching dumb a** LOGAN getting mad about everything when they questioned him about his current projects and how he needs more money.
all of these clowns need to get back to the circus where they belong.

I saw that %$%^ last night. Was absolutely disgusted. No too sure what they did was legal. Am not happy. Jabba and his pet monkey(joey) sure do play politics well don't they. Un real, the democrats vote against the taxes the hahahahaha republicans vote for the taxes. They way durel spoke you'd think it would be an honor for us to be able to vote to tax ourselves to death. That man and his handler(jabba) are evil in my opinion. Sorry I missed jabba getting mad tho, that's always fun to watch. One day he's gonna just literally "bust a gut" from his anger.

I dont even know if this government is really worth commenting on anymore its a bunch of clowns with no direction. Anything that comes out of their mouth is idiotic and they illegally casted a second vote. Jabba needs to get another job with his attitude about parish residents. Since when can you have someone in that position publicly reject citizens they are supposed to represent. Both of those monkeys are gone next election.

LOL, in my opinion, lafayette has the worst traffic planning I have ever seen. Yesterday mid day, amb caffery had 1 lane blocked, guilbeau had 1 lane blocked, johnston at ridge was being worked on and as usual the "short cut" to the mall w.broussard was closed do to a 40 year(seems like) 2 lane bridge replacement and traffic was backed up for miles. Whoever schedules road work should be gone. What a joke, what a way to kill commerce. I say recall joey just for his and his staffs lack of imagination. And to think ,dunce was telling everyone he saw on election day that all "his" tax proposals were going to pass easily. Out of touch OR out of his mind?

Now abbd, did it ever occur to you that the inconvenience might well have been planned that way ? Remember the 1st year Acadiana Mall was opened and the city/state waited until Christmas to improve the Johnston/Flanders Road (now Ambassador Caffery) interchange? How on earth could this city re-employ Tony Trammel as its traffic planner when he is the only one we have ever had and look around this city; If this is planning, I am a kangeroo. The only viable solutions they come up with is "Big Brother" traffic signal cameras (which are only another way to fleece the taxpaying public). I think everyone who posts on this board could do better job than Trammel has.
I think this whole tax grab was a way to obtain lots of extra money to splash around during an election year.

Z, do you really believe that this group of incompetents could actually plan an event like this? LOL I cannot wait until monday morning to see what the traffic looks like on amb caaffery with one lane blocked again at the height of "shopping season".!! LOL Bring a camcorder, we may be able to have a top 5 hit on you tube! LOL I wonder what the record is for "longest line of backed up traffic"? We might break that record, courtesy of dunce and his planners! Somebody once told me that the tramples guy's real title should be "minister of traffic jams" like in the old monty python skits! LOL

It is called "payback" because the voters decided to not accept the statements of our leaders at face value. We all know we can trust Durel & co. don't we ? Pay attention to the news articles that will appear on a regular basis regarding the current jail facility. First, there was a front page story about inmates communicating between floors using the plumbing system of jail. Sunday, there was an article about insufficient funding for the jail. This will continue with articles declaring how it is impossible to continue operating present outdated jail.We all know where this is leading don't we ?
I have a question: If is costs $44 per day to house an inmate, why on earth would our Sheriff, a Phd, knowingly hold state inmates for $22.39 per day, or federal inmates for $36 per day. Any moron could calculate that this is not a profitable situation. It costs the parish over $2,000,000 to house state prisoners based upon the sheriff's figures - 250 inmates times $22 times 365. Send the state inmates to the state because they are a state responsibility. Ditto for others. You would then have lots of free space. The taxpayers pay taxes to house Lafayette inmates only. See, problem solved, right ?

I am sure that Joey is making friends all over the state with the headlines in the Advertiser today. Just as one person’s horse dung is another’s fertilizer, one person’s pork is another’s vital project.
That shoe falls both ways.
Joey should learn a little diplomacy and practice it.

Today’s Advertiser finally got it right!
They put boondoggle and Joey Durel in the same editorial.
“According to the online encyclopedia Wikipedia, a boondoggle "is a North American term which has come to refer to the performance of useless or trivial tasks while appearing to be doing something important." The encyclopedia notes the key feature of it is the waste of time or money involved. Is that defensible?”
That about sums up his entire administration, doesn’t it?

Man oh man, joey durel, the gift that keeps on giving. I wanna thank dunce for his perfect gift for any opponent he may face next year. Boondoggles, pork, wasteful spending of taxpayer dollars is what he believes in. He is a visionary ain't he? After two and a half years of intense thinking?? and input from numerous sychophants, and various government contract receipents all the man can come up with (to solve our horrid traffic conditions) is to raise our taxes and waste more of our tax dollars on boondoggles and pork. Keep talking joey, you make good copy. Too bad he won't do the right thing and resign. His policies are failed policies from the past and he is too far inside the box to see daylight.

What's really nice about the Cajundome for basketball games is that the seats are so far from the court and two thirds of the seats are empty. It gives you a lot of choices of where to sit. A modern Blackum with the front-row seats next to the court would draw more fans and excitement.

By the end of the summer, redlight cameras in Lafayette will be up and running - looking for you. If you get busted, it'll cost you $120. Here's how it works, 25 intersections have been tagged as the most dangerous in the city. Cameras go up, they take a picture of your car (front and back), and your face. In addition to red-light cameras, there will be two traffic vans in the city of Lafayette. The vans are manned by Red-Flex employees, and they, too, are equipped with cameras. Tickets will be issued in the same way, but prices will vary based on how fast you're driving. SafeLight Lafayette Locations: Gloria Switch @ Frontage, University @ I-10 (east), University @ I-10 (west), Evangeline Thwy @ Mudd (NB & SB), Evangeine Thwy @ Willow (NB & SB), Moss @ Simcoe, Evangeline Thwy @ Johnston, Evangeline Thwy @ Louisiana, Evangeline Thwy @ Pinhook, Moss @ Pont des Mouton, Evangeline Thwy @ Simcoe, Johnston @ Vermilion, Moss @ Mudd, Johnston @ Foreman-Woodvale, Pinhook @ Kaliste Saloom, Amb Caffery @ Willow, Simcoe @ Pinhook, Evangeline Thwy @ Second (NB), Evangeline Thwy @ Second (SB), Bertrand @ Dulles-Billeaud, Johnston @ College, Johnston @ University, Amb Caffery @ Dulles, University @ Simcoe, Louisiana @ Simcoe, Johnston @ Guilbeau-Camellia, Johnston @ St Mary, Johnston @ Bertrand
And so the rape of the taxpayer begins.

Wow. I didn't think that two private contractor employees were empowered to give tickets. Sort of thought that would be for law enforcement. The officials in Lafayette only see dollar signs and not the negative impact their actions could have on this city.

So why exactly do we need city police, city court, and city marshall ? If the city is going to generate tickets in this manner (are any of you familiar w/the New Orleans parking ticket Nazi's ?), why pay all this overhead ? You were a businessman Mr Durel, so did you run your per store that way ?
I guess with the loss of court costs normally generated by traffic tickets, the city court system will be screaming for additional funds before you know it. Let's dispose of that mess Mr Durel.
You will see the same abuse as in New Orleans parking tickets fiasco because the vendor is PROFIT driven, not safety driven, as our city "leaders" are proclaiming. Safety has nothing to do with this. The administration is not looking after your well being, but theirs.
