Cox Communications is raising rates again. Extended cable (channels 2-73) is going to go up to $46.99 per month.
"Cox said cited higher fuel costs, and costs of recovery from hurricanes Katrina and Rita as two of the reasons behind the new rates."
Well excuse me if I don't feel sorry for Cox. I'm sure if gas prices go down to $.99 we won't see a drop in our cable bill. When Cox fully recovers from the hurricanes last year, I doubt they'll drop their rates. I like television, but dang that's a lot of money and especially since I mainly watch around 7 of those channels.

I have COX also and I am sure that these companies carry INSURANCE that cover these kind of damages, so they really need to come up with a better excuse than this one. It would be nice that every time GAS goes up we as hard working citizens could say to the people that pay our salaries, hey I will except my raise this week cause GAS went up again. But again we lose and they win.

Cox needs to do what they intially were designed to do, cable televsion. They already ventured into the high speed internet business, they do not need to enter into the telephone business. They spend more time and money advertising with that blue dancing dude, thats why the rates are going up, instead of worring about problems they already have on the cable system for tv like weak signals, poor digital quality, etc. So thats a lame excuse to raise rates.

Seems like everyone wants to put their hands in the cookie jar. Internet, telephone and cable tv. Bellsouth, Cox or city of Lafayette. I am hoping (praying) that the fiber to the home initiative can bring some relief to these outrageous price hikes. A friend of mine still works at Cox and she gets digital cable on 3 tv's (with HBO & Showtime channels) and internet service for $5 a month! WHOA! Funny thing is that she doesn't even like tv or computers.

Not being a collectivist or believing in central planning, I want my government to stay far away from competing with private enterprise. If you like the way joey and dee run this governemnt, then you will really love socialized communications. The government has its hand in my pocket too much already, I don't want it taking everything I have. If the governor would not have vetoed the cable competition bill, we would have seen lower cable tv prices. But alas some people need the government to control their lives.

Sorry, let me correct myself, abbd. I was hoping that the fiber to the home issue comes to pass so that can alleviate some of Cox's price hikes. The fishwrap had an article that mentioned Cox waited before imposing the increases in Lafayette which probably can be attributed to LCG trying to create its own cable service. I am extremely skeptical as to what a pet seller and a newsman can do in the technology market.
As a side note, Gov. Blanco's daughter works for Cox in Acadiana as some type of public affairs person.
