Did anyone but me watch the HBO special by director Spike Lee on Hurricane Katrina aired Monday & Tuesday?
I found it strange that some issues were avoided so as to not harm certain individuals public images, as if they were not damaged enough. Example, Bush, FEMA, and Corps of Engineers were hammered pretty hard, and they deserved it. BUT, Blanco was not shown to have done any wrong, the State police were given a pass, Ray Nagin was made to look pretty good, Gretna police chastised for not allowing mobs to cross river.
Barely touched on looting by citizens or police, burning of mall on West Bank, buses parked in 4 feet of water, failure of Governor to send immediate relief or call out national guard, crime in Dome. Is this the true picture ?

April, Good post. I did not see it (HBO Movie) nor do I plan on seeing it. What can you expect from someone like Spike Lee? I put all of the blame on Blanko and Nagin, and all of the fools that stayed after given 5 days advance notice that the Hurricane was headed for New Orleans. GWB called Blanko, asking if she needed help; her reply was, "give me 24 hours". And as they say, the rest is history.
Mary Landrieu stated the buses were underwater before the Hurricane hit New Orleans. That was the reason why no one used the buses; "they were full of water".
The sad thing about all this is we (Louisiana voters) will keep voting these types of incompetents in office.
BTW, The last election, Orleans Parish voters, were allowed to vote without proving who they were. Did anyone say how long this would be allowed? Why is this allowed only in Orleans Parish?

I watched all of the first part, and most of the second. I think the show was aimed at pity for the poor and downtrodden (mostly) of the city. I like the old rich guy who was in Italy at the time of Katrina. Made it look like rich white people were above it all. Like their houses did not flood. And the blacks who stayed in lower 9th ward and heard 'explosions". Yes, whitey blew up the levees.
Taureau, I think it was for that election only.
And Mary, how were the buses under water before the storm ? what a crock.

I plan on watching it sometime next week (my wife taped it). With any documentary, the director can twist the story any way he/she sees fit. Look at Fahrenheit 9/11. I'll keep an open mind about it.
The key thing I learned from Hurricane Katrina is that no one can depend on the government. We have to take care of ourselves. God forbid if a hurricane devastates Lafayette. Could you imagine Joey trying to lead us from that?

We could not even get tree debris picked up for months, so we can hardly criticize Big Easy. I still wonder, why aren't bids taken EACH YEAR before hurricane season ? Ooops, that is called planning. My grass is just starting to grow back where the debris was piled! If Rita was only 10-15 miles east of where she came ashore, we would still be a mess. and Mayor Nagin strikes again. go to this site... wcbstv.com/video/?cid=48

Joey could use Jabba as a raft, at least that would provide some value.

Did you know that the governor's "Road Home to Recovery" is paying people NOT to come back? And some of them are complaining that the formula for distribution benefits the people coming home MORE then the one's moving away ?
The public transit system in New Orleans in not cleaning the buses or streetcars. Excuse : They only have one pressure washer and one brush. Maybe all the brushes were stolen after Katrina. Seriously, are the idiots in New Orleans as bad as the idiots in Lafayette ? I thought we had the dumbest, but I think there in some competition from the east. Perhaps we could loan Dee Stanley to New Orleans and really foul things up down there.

Here is your answer Dorothy;
BREAKING NEWS.........IMPORTANT THAT YOU READ THIS! New STD strain has surfaced in New Orleans... The Center for Disease Control has issued a warning about a new virulent strain of Stupid Transmitted Disease in New Orleans. The disease is contracted through ignorance coupled with dangerous and high-risk behavior. The disease is called Gonorrhea Lectem and pronounced "gonna re-elect'em." Most victims have contracted it unknowingly and keep perpetuating this disease through apathy. The strain was first diagnosed in early 2006 when Mayor Nagin was returned to the mayors office. The current strain re-surfaced this past fall when William Jefferson won the runoff election. Doctors have realized that the strain may have been introduced in Louisiana in 2003, coincidental to the last election cycle. The Center for Disease Control has issued a severe warning this past week that there is danger this strain of Stupid Transmitted Disease in New Orleans has already mutated and surfaced as far away as Lafayette, and may infect the entire State of Louisiana by early fall, just in time for the General Election.

Well, I know it did not start in Lafayette because we did not support Blanco. On the other hand, I think some of the virus migrated this way. Who would have known Joey would be incompetent or that he would hire people like Dee ? Like Hundley ? Who would have ever guessed that a REPUBLICAN would be in favor of higher and more taxation, of socialist programs (ftth)? Of lapses in ethics (city police, road deals)? Of caving to small vocal minorities (MLK Blvd). Of having the likes of Armentor driving your bandwagon? Inability to put forth a single item from his election platform into play.
