I think I will go with Mike Francis for Secretary of State. I think he is a really good guy.
Today, I heard Moon Griffon and Paul Loy Hurd talking about the upcoming constitutional amendments. On Moon's web site there is a list of them and comments about each one. Anyone have any comments about any or all of them? I think we will have a total of 21 amendments to vote on.

I'm supporting Heitmeier myself. He's a good guy and knows how to get things done.

I am voting for the young man from New Orleans who passed legislation to make Sec of State stay out of other political races. An elections officer has NO business being involved in other political races. makes one doubt the fairness of elections.

Did y'all happen to see the voting record of Dardenne posted yesterday at The Dead Pelican? Twas a real eye opener, and there is no way I can support anyone who supports abortion rights(and I don't care what position he's running for). I like Heitmeier! I really like Heitmeier and believe he can make things happen. Vote Heitmeier!

On the Constitutional amendments concerning the ability of the State, etc to "invest" a portion of their funds in the stock market, I just want to know which politically connected stockbroker will get the money? If the investments were limited to something like Vanguard or TIA/CREFF or other similar stock funds that would be ok, but, to me, it looks like a stockbroker's retirement act.

abbd, If you didn't like Dardenne's voting record; you will certainly not like Heitmeier's voting record either. Check it out. Get rid of ALL the career politicians.

I just read Dardenne's voting record. I was surprised to see him voting for so many taxes. Not quite the conservative thing to do. The Dead Pelican stated that he authored the term limit bill and now he's going after the Secretary of State position. This makes me wonder...do politicians create term limit bills just so that would give them access to other elected positions in higher areas of government? Hmmm...

I do not think we have a clear choice in this, or most elections. In the Insurance commissioners race, both Cain and Donelon are clearly bad choices. That only leaves the Libertarian, who seems to be a crackpot (but who I will vote for). As for the Sec of State, term limits only affect our legislators, and Dardenne could not have known McKeithen would drink himself to death, thereby opening that office. I will vote for Dardenne as the lesser of the evils, but he would not be my first choice for the office.
I have come to realize that it is virtually impossible to not vote for taxes as a legislator, and some taxes are necessary. There is so much compromise that takes place, and to get your legislation passed, one must help others. I will vote against the investment of public money on stocks. It is too risky. Look how much our school retirement system lost a couple of years ago on bad investments. I support anything that will address coastal erosion as well as consolidating the levee districts.

OK, for all of you who HATE "the Stelly bill" as I do, Heitmeier voted against it! Dardenne voted for it and in fact I believe introduced it in the Senate. I HATE the stelly bill, look at your state income tax filing and see what that horrific bill costs you every year. And don't believe that R behind Dardenne's name.it's in my opinion a facade.

Dardenne and Heitmeier, both have very ugly voting records. Dardenne would not make a pimple on a Republican's ass. He is one in name only (RINO). Place both of their records side by side and then vote for the best one and I would also suggest holding your nose while voting. Both are career politicians and both need to leave. Most voters will not look at voting records, only name recognition. This past election I think we had 19% voter turnout. Locally, low voter turnouts equates to more taxes.

Said in the "paper" that in Australia, you are fined if you do not vote. I would suggest that is a good idea. may not keep bad politicians out, but at least people would have to make some sort of decision.
We need a "none of the above" as a choice. If no one gets majority (50%) would have to re-open for additional candidates. Let's face it, with the selections we have had lately, we would be better off. Donelon as Insurance Commissioner - get real. Selling insurance franchises for contributions.
