Well, I voted today. Only an hour and 15 minutes before the poles close. Hopefully we have more than the usual 7% turnout.

Hey T, I wonder if Vermilion Parish voted down consolidated government because the folks there saw how dysfunctional lafayette's present government is? In my opinion they probably took a look at dunce, duncil and jabba and got scared as heck. I think Vermilion gets to watch our dunce and duncil in action at our tuesday meetings on their cable system now, no wonder dunce wants his own cable! Easier to keep taxpayers in the dark when the meetings aren't televised.

Does anyone know why in the world DeAnne Henke's name was still on the ballot for State Commissioner of Insurance??? She dropped out a few weeks before the election and endorsed James David Cain.
Something not right about that ....

Ya know Tbear, joey's supporters always said he'd have a positive effect. See they were right, look what joey's policies and abilities have done for our NEIGHBORING parish!! Made them come to see how inept our government is here. Good job administration! lol

T-Bear, I, too, was happy to see the voters of Vermilion Parish had the good sense to leave the "consolidated" government out of their parish. It is does not work here, why should it work anywhere.

Any chance of Lafayette putting something on the next ballot to abolish Lafayette's consolidated government? If that doesn't get a large voter turnout...nothing will.
I feel bad that an entire parish saw how our consolidated government behaves and decided they were better off without it. Lafayette can be doing so much better.

Consolidated government could work if it were in fact consolidated. All we did was get rid of a police jury, which solved nothing. If we were to actually consolidate, like Orleans did 100 years ago, perhaps we would actually save some money, and have a real consolidation. No city court, no small municipalities etc. We were lied to by the police jury, the city council, the chamber of commerce etc. Imagine that.

I'll agree to that Ronnie, if it was done right.
And coolboy, if I remember correctly, only one good thing I can remember that Benjamin ever suggested several months ago was to put it on this past or upcoming ballot for the people to revote on the issue. (I cant believe I said he did something good). If I remember correctly it was voted no by the other members and I dont remember the yes no count.
I was glad to see Vermilion voted no, I might move there, less traffic, less government bs, no metro code which is ridiculous, etc!!!

I too agree. Consolidated govt could work if it were actually consolidated. The problem we seem to have in America is an insatiable demand for MORE government and more laws to address any percieved wrongs; cameras to catch people violating traffic laws, no smoking in public, seat belts, helmets for bikers, no smoking in your own car with kids in car, open containers, litterbug spys, open containers, more taxes but less service, arrogant public servants (We have many in Lafayette - Durel, Neustrom, Comeaux, Perret, Jabba comes to mind). Our Constitution did not envision such intrusion into our personal lives. The intention is always good, but where will it end? Brave New World, 1984 ? What we need is government to provide basic services - roads, public safety, defense, and to butt out of our lives and personal behavior except when we interfere with others property and personal safety.

Today, on Moon Griffon, I heard one of the ugliest and negative campaign ads ever. A scumbag running against Bobby Jyndal for U.S. Congress; states that Bobby is for protecting pedophiles (Mark Foley) and ask that Bobby Jyndal resign from congress. What a big fool. Needless to say, he will never get to Washington, unless it is Washington, EC. These people are really desperate and will do anything, ANYTHING to get into office. Did anyone else hear or see it?

Does anyone have the poll numbers for Charles Boustany and Mike Stagg in District 7?

I haven't seen any polls cool, but I believe in some cases where the opposition is not considered a serious challenger, polls are not always taken. If you were Dr.Boustany, would you waste money on a poll in this race? Not saying anything negative about stagg(although I disagree with everything he stands for), but he has run for governor before and got such little response, some folks don't take his candidacy seriously. Hey if anyone disagrees with this, please feel free to tell me.

The power of incumbents. Dr B has no reason for concern, and will likely get 80%. I will vote against him as a protest vote. I do not like out of state money funding local candidates. I do believe Dr B is a better choice than Stagg, but...
Talk about an ugly race, look at Sheriff's race in St Landry Parish. Lots of gossip going around. I think the lady has earned the job, but many will vote against her because of her race, which is unfortunate. Another interesting race is brewing in Iberia between Sid Hebert and a former state police captain, Louis Ackal.
