What a farce. Local news reports the state police raided a local country bar for the crime of gambling - having the house take a cut from the players in, of all things, a Bouree game. Full State Police complement, cops, cars, guns radios - wonder why the Swat Team was not called in.... Arrested the scofflaws - who could believe (with apologies Capt Renault) - "I'm shocked, shocked that gambling is going on here!" The report indicated that the cut of the house was all of $80. Let's see - La Constitution says no gambling but allows the Legislature to define gambling The La Legislature defines gambling as that which pays them and their friends lots of money (and puts ex-governor's in jail). Millions of dollars are flowing into the state's coffers from these "games" that are not, exactly, gambling - as the legislature has decided that they are not, leaving the State Police with having to raid two-bit Bouree games in poor country bars and rounding up all of the usual suspects to parade before the cameras to make the cops look good, while all kind of evil is going on out there. Wonder what it cost the taxpayers to pay for all of the cops, cop cars, guns, radios, etc to make the brilliant raid on the country bar to stop the evilness of Bouree??? Probably much more than $80.00 fubar

Really, Jims Lounge has been there for how many years now and the state just figured out the house has been getting a cut? My grandparents, deceased now for about 25 years, told me the house would get a cut back then when they played. And its around the corner from Troop I.

Yes, a very impressive use of resources. It is amazing that when a private individual does the exact same thing as the state, it is considered a legal issue . You know, in a private game such as the one at Jim's lounge, there is overhaed cost: salaries, utilities. What is the state investment in a casino again ?

I just had a friend tell me that he received a ticket for "Jaywalking" in New Orleans on Decater (sp) Street from a state trooper who pulled his unit over stopped him and cited him. Ticket cost - $111.00.
We are paying troopers $70 an hour for that when people are being shot in the City? There is some crime stopper action for you.
