Seriously I would like to have the info on the 16th sections that were sold. You indicate the early Fosters - do you mean Mike Foster's grandfather who was governor in the 1890's or the most recent one. Please let me know. Fubar

Man this topic is very popular! I heard something a while back about some Section 16 lands in St. Martin Parish being sold illegally. I also heard some citizens wanted action to be taken, talk about lawyers doing work for free was mentioned. What ever happened with that?? Sounds like a big can of worms that Section 16 land topic. Good luck on your topic! maybe the St. Martin Parish might wake up to what is happening or maybe higher authority might jump in and take some action.

Grandfather Foster passed a bill of some sort I forget the term they use, but they had fun selling 16 Lands and untill today most of the same families still prosper off of them. The grandson Foster owns 16 Lands as we speak, and you can be sure that there are oil wells on them. Do a little research you will see all of the states 16s have been sold to the same little click. With all the information you have shared you must know about this. Now they will claim if it is not habitable you can sell it. But habitable to what. These people are the ones who use each word as a weapon when writing their laws. Bottom line, the lands cannot be sold as they were sold. In north La. there is only a portion of the lands still in school hands. Down south it is a little better, to many eyes on them. It was a legislative act passed in 1892.

I guest the truth really hurts. You know they hate it when they are exposed to the public. The Section 16 story is the biggest to ever hit Baton Rouge. To many big names are on these puppies. Remember, the children are the easiest ones to steal from.
