Has anyone had to deal with City Court for any reason? Can you believe the Security (?) to enter the "public" building to conduct public business? I practically had to get undressed ( and I emptied my pockets before entering building) because the security wands were set to such a sensitive level. Is this necessary ? City Court only handles misdemeanor, minor civil cases, and traffic and DWI cases. Is there really a threat from these people?
This whole security thing has become asnine. If I wanted to harm a judge, marshal or other court official, I would simply wait by their car, which is parked in the open outside, (and they park in the same place everytime). Ditto for the Parish Courthouse. A couple of deputies roaming around the building would provide a sense of security with far less inconvenience to the public, who does in fact own those buildings.
My visit to court was necessitated by a traffic infraction by my child. It is insane to put a parent through all of those hoops when as an adult you merely pay your fine, and move on. I wasted a number of hours bouncing around town to comply with the city court b.s. and I can assure you the kids see through the system and it does not scare them, if that is the intent (the judge gives lectures, just like his dad).
Where does all of this self importance come from, and why do we, as taxpayers tolerate such treatment. It is as if we work for elected officials, not the other way around.
And again I ask, why exactly do we, a "consolidated" government need a city anything anyway? Didn't we vote to consolidate duplicated service, and save money?
