I see violent crime in Lafayette has increased dramatically once again. A few years ago this administration was blaming the high crime rate on an administrative error. Wonder what sort of spin these guys will try to put on the latest crime rate increase? Awaken from your coma admin, this city is literally falling into chaos as we speak. We don't need more economic developement, fiber optics or more "arts", we need a safe place to live and raise our children NOW! It's time to take our government back! Oh by the way, don't expect to see our lame useless local media cover this story, it might look bad for the administration.

And now the L.P.D. is accused of wiretapping the Chief/Chief's secretary. What the heck is that all about ? Sounds like a pretty inept wiretap at that. Is the city investigating this incident (it appears so) or an outside agency like Parish Sheriff or State Police ?

A little bird told me there could be a lot more to this wire-tap story than we will ever know. I see our fine (haha) news media here has really been digging into this story huh? (hahahahaha) Too bad we don't have anyone willing to dig around and investigate. Too many sacred cows.

I think it is past time to start evaluating whether or not we should let the Sheriff apsorb the city police because it is self evident that the LPD has run amok, and clearly is not an organization of integrity. The civil service system shields the bad officers, and makes the good officers look bad as well. And I will not even broach the cost factors at this time.

I think it is time all law enforcement "merge" together; not only here but every where. You see and hear all the time about one group of law enforcement with holding information (serial killer case Baton Rouge), from another because they want to make "The Collar" as Ed Mc Bain would say. If it is going on there, it is going on else where too. It seems to be working great in New Iberia. Look at all of the "Administration Types" and the duplication in jobs and services. Don't stop there, look at all of the different duplications in our surrounding cities and townships. How many Mayors, Councilmen, Tax assessors and I am certain I missed a few but that may be for a different venue. Merci et Bon Soir

Does anyone think that the rise in crime can be attributed to the Katrina evacuees that are now living in Lafayette? Not from the standpoint that criminals came to Lafayette from New Orleans, but that they may commit petty crimes in order to live?

Sure, not so bad now that alot have left, but if you followed the daily arrests over the months, there were 400 - 500 arrests of people with addresses from the New Orleans area and locations from the Lake Charles area, from shoplifting to armed robbery.
Every once and awhile you see another one pop up now, I guess alot have of the bad element has moved or calmed down. There are still alot of evacuees still living in fema trailers in trailer parks on the northside but you dont hear to much of them. Of course there are alot that moved to apartment complexes with Lafayette addresses now so its hard to tell if these people are the evacuees that get arrested.
I might also add that these are the ones that get caught the ones that dont get caught well I guess no one knows where they are from.

I think it is fairly evident that a lot of the "animals" have returned to the big city. The murders and robberies have been increasing rapidly in New Orleans, and of course the "resident" police force has no clue on how to stop the crime wave(how about hiring non-resident police and let them do their job ?). Let's hear it for a return to "chocolate city". Thanks Mayor Nagin.
