It is my understanding that internal studies by the commission and their consultants show that the tolls will not pay for the expressway, the revenues will fall far short of the monies needed to build. Additionally, their studies show that the road needs to go outside of the parish In as much as that was the commission’s only purpose (toll road, in lafayette parish only) , just what is their objective now?

All this talk about toll roads are only for help in paying for the roads, and once they are paid for the toll comes off. I have yet to see a toll road that is no longer a toll road. The Pennsyvania Turnpike was one of these. It was constructed back in the 50's and they are still collecting tolls. Once a toll road, always a toll road.

Ditto. Look at the Ponchatrain Causway, built in 1959. Tolls have actually gone up. Same for Mississippi River Bridge in New Orleans. On the other hand, tolls were removed from Sunshine Bridge. The bridges that have tolls have little bureaucracies; Causway Commission, Greater New Orleans Expressway Commission, and tolls maintain these little kingdoms with their own police forces and maintenance crews.
