And as for the cameras in the courthouse; It seems to me that our elected officials want to watch us, but are very sensitive to being watched.
They all carry camera phones in the courthouse and city court, yet have a sign posted saying that we, the owners of the building cannot. Imagine, the tenants make the rules, not the owners. And what law exactly is being utilized to enforce this stupid regulation ?

Well Lisa, the law being used is the law of the sheep. We just play along like we do not know better, or care. Cameras inside the courthouse, outside on all the light poles to watch the public, but the public is not allowed to watch them. Hmmmm, a bit suspicious. Do our officials have something to hide ?
And speaking of cameras, I watched some of those on line videos of people running lights. I agree with someone who said that alone proves that the cameras do not deter or affect driving behavior one bit. Money grab.
Baa,Baa little sheep.

Knew the drought wouldn't last long before the clerk would be "at it" again in his process of elimination of employees...no doubt to bring in some personal "favor" friends...one 30+ yrs employee just left there because after all these years got the shaft a few months ago..the clerk promised that in 3 mos, she would be RE-EVALUATED w/prospects of a raise & of course, that never happened. RE-EVALUATED FOR WHAT !!! On probation for what? Voicing an opinion? This employee was in charge of Appeals for YEARS & then a year ago, made asst supervisor of Civil Records...she became ill & while away under medical supervision, "they" plotted against her & the day she returned to work things had changed...she was no longer in charge of this & that & shortly thereafter, after voicing her opinion (which is not allowed), she promptly was kicked out of Appeals & Records & into the Criminal Dept doing no-brainer tasks, which she did with the grace of a lady...her new supervisor treated her like a supervisor should, w/respect & dignity & even promoted this woman into a minute clerk position...no raise, of course, but surely not due to her supervisor... Still never got her RE-evaluation & raise due in April 08. The same day this employee left, another one was "canned" for not "excelling" at SCANNING....PLEASE...give me a break...see, the clerk either makes the environment demonic enough to make one want to quit and/or, he just flat out fires 'em....that's how it goes...soooooo if anyone out there thinks they may have a future at the clerk's office, THINK AGAIN...THINK TWICE...even those who have walked the chalk line in the past have now been intimidated & brainwashed into throwing stones...future clone-like brains of the clerk....can't trust a soul at that place. What once was a place of pride, is now a place of prejudice, deceit & falseness. Can't help but have downright pity on those employees to have a wolf as a boss & dressed in sheep's clothing, but ONLY to those ignorant of his character. The older employees have treasured memories of the previous administration where there was peace & harmony & even fun....can you imagine that & employees were not treated as though under a new communism, as is the case now. This man talks but it's all hot air.. certainly doesn't walk the way he talks...always bragging about going to church & loud enough for everyone to hear....yet his actions reveal a heart of stone....most certainly, a narcisist ! EVERYONE is afraid over there...oh, but what goes around, comes around...just like a boomerang !!!

Bunny, why do you expect competence where there is none? Most people I know are aware that the courthouse officials are not good managers but just do not care because their incompetence does not affect our lives. I doubt that our clerk of court is capable of running a KFC franchise much less a multi-million dollar public enterprise with more than 100 employees. I think the fact is, people in Lafayette seem to relish incompetent overpaid public officials. Seen your new tax bill yet ?

Ronnie, you are correct...what on earth was I thinking...I just know so many people who utilize the records at the clerk's office for filing suits, etc & seems like everyone is pretty educated w/the history of the clerk's office from way back when to these present times...times are tough for everyone right now & learning of an employee leaving under such circumstances, whom has benefited my firm for years is just unnerving...learning that because of a better offer, she left a job she had hoped to remain until she retired...& to be treated w/no respect & dignity is just not right....& then, also, firing someone right at the beginning of the holiday season for truly nothing...oh well...back to my 1st sentence...' Ronnie, you are correct. ' It's just sad to see that @ the end of a long ' career', if you will, some have those tainted memories to deal with at their end & that which could have been a joyous occasion, has turned out to be experiencing the blade of the axe....And yes, I've seen my new tax bill !!!!

Why does the public allow the Clerk to treat employees like dogs?
Heck, even dogs have the ASPCA to look out for them. Is he responsible for the retirement costs? Is that why he is driving off employees with over 20 years?
If older employees are being driven off and being replaced with younger employees, isn't that against the law?

I have your solution Quest; Michael Vick gets out soon. Perhaps he can run for Clerk and then the SPCA would get involved. Treated like dog might be an improvement for many over there.
I have to believe that most incumbents (except Joey D) are more than a little concerned about their political futures as evidenced by recent voting trends; experience apparently counts for nothing. I believe Comeaux will be the first to bail. I would like to see them hold a job where work is required.

I am happy to see our Clerk back from attending the "Nuts and Bolts" conference in Florida looking tan and fit. What is this, 10 trips to Destin, Florida on our nickel? Did we obtain any local benefit, and if so, why didn't he put an article in the newspaper to enlighten us? I am sure inquiring minds want to know how we can afford all those family vacations on taxpayer dollars but we cannot give decent cost of living raises to staff; the primary justification for all those fee hikes we see.

Our last Clerk of Court (elected) printed 2 books; Image' de Lafayette, and a book 2. I seem to remember pictures of Snacks in that. I miss the place myself.

Well, election time is around the corner. No one is challenging Jindal, who has shown himself to be all talk (ethics reform ? education ? Charity Hospital ?). And on the local level, is no one going to challenge the Clerk, Assessor, or Sheriff ? They all need a push I feel.

He needs to be bashed. He is an unscruplous scaliwag of the highest note. He pays most of his staff poorly (note the turnover), says he has no money, raises fees whenever he legally can, yet he has amassed a $10 million surplus. Giving employees a $15 /per month raise and expecting to be thanked.
BTW, how much money are we raising with the new vending machines in office breakroom? Let's put a blind man (who runs courthouse coffee shop) out of business. What a sweet , considerate person.

I don't know if anyone reads this thread anymore, but I used to work for the clerk of court and can attest to the large turnover, especially in the IT department, and the "Chief Deputy"s micromanaging and lack of professionalism. For instance, during my 1st day of training, I went with the Chief to have my ID made, and those at Records Management were on break talking about someone else. She joins them, and then asks me to leave the room so she can share a private story about someone else. Not 10 minutes later when we get back, we go over "gossiping in the workplace". She acts as if nothing was wrong, and says to just not do it ever. That should have been a red flag for me, but no, I was naïve.
Is it wrong to find it strange when you're let go for "poor work performance", yet you had no prior warnings about any problems with your work performance by anyone? I received nothing but complements from Mr. Perret and my supervisor during my time there. I could find no co-workers who had heard of anything negative either. But they found any small mistakes I made, and used them against me, even twisting the words of a co-worker who would later give me a reference, as they were clearly pissed that they were used in such a way. Clearly politics trumps all here. Apparently, as Mr. Perret told me after I was let go for "poor performance", that he was keeping tabs on my work performance, despite never actually witnessing me work, or talking to me about my performance ever. He tried to seem apologetic, but then made it clear, that the clerk's is an "at will" employer, and I should not be going around to the departments to gather information about my work performance. I'm so non conformational that I didn't bother debating anything with him, especially since I was still in the probationary period, and had no legal recourse.
Apparently they don't believe in second chances, as they completely ignored all my counter-arguments and attempts at mediation. It shouldn't be surprising that they even have a clause in their handbook about being able to completely ignore their discipline steps at their own discretion. And that was NOT just for workers still in probationary period, but any at all! That says something about those in charge, doesn't it?
It is strange that the clerk's office clings to the bottom, letter of the law..you would think they would aspire to be better than that.
Anyways, he is up for re-election soon, so if anyone sees this, and the clear body of evidence as to the dysfunction of the clerk's office, please make your voice heard and vote for someone else.

I too worked there briefly, and frankly, if the Clerk or "chief" were on fire........well, you know. I would hope that someone would step up and run against this team of miss-managers and bring us a proper Clerk of Court. I am pretty certain that only about 1/4 of current staff likes this guy, and that is only because they are in the "In Crowd". I am somewhat surprised that no one has sued him for sexual harassment, as he has hit on several persons that I knew, and yes Justicar, he has a rule against that as well. But then, like Obama, rules are for the little people.
