April, to reply to your post in re to wanting to know specifics...have you checked out #61's (on the ballot for Clerk of Court) website...Mr Roger Lehman..I know him personally & not only is he a loyal man, but he is honest & truly cares about fulfilling the duty of being a responsible public servant...when you check out his site you will see his credentials...he's more than qualified for this position of Clerk of Court...he's a hard working man & cares about what is happening at the Clerk's office, not only w/the continuing rising costs to the public, but is concerned about the welfare of the employees, as well....after all, they are the ones w/yrs of experience & dedication & do the majority of the work...the present Clerk has fired so many people for literally no reason...letting go of loyal, responsible workers who cared about their positions there...(Click here: Roger D. Lehman - Oil & Gas Abstractor for Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court )...type this in your browser & learn about Mr Lehman. If the employees could speak freely.....they are the true voice of the Clerk.

well, the employees cannot speak freely, and that is why there needs to be a change in that office. the current officeholder is clearly unqualified and unfit.

Did my eyes deceive me or did I really see Louis Perret escorting Roger Lehman out of the Clerk’s Office late this morning?
What was that all about?

HOW CAN WE TRUST THE PERSON IN CHARGE OF ELECTIONS, (CLERK OF COURT) WHEN HE IS OUT CAMPAIGNING FOR OTHER CANDIDATES RUNNING FOR DIFFERENT OFFICES? ALSO THE CONCERNED CITIZENS FOR GOOD GOVERNMENT INVITED BOTH MR. LEHMAN AND MR. PERRET TO JOIN THEM FOR ONE OF THEIR MEETINGS. MR. LEHMAN ACCEPTED. MR. PERRET DECLINED. WHY? WHAT IS HE AFRAID OF? ??

Didn't Roger work for the Clerk's office for a number of years? Seem to remember he did.
May have been under the previous Clerk of Court.

It would seem that you cannot trust the Clerk to be fair and impartial about anything. That is the problem when you elect a politician rather than someone who has worked their way through the system. The politician does not understand why he is there or what he should be doing, only that he is there, and he has some influence. He has not treated employees with an ounce of respect, and in fact has chased away hundreds of years of experience, with much more on the way. In turn, he has promoted those willing to "Kiss up" to him. What those people do not realize, is they will at some point become useless to him, and will be discarded like a used kleenix. He is a career politician, and his goal is public office, not public service. It is understood that he aspires to higher office (like congress where he can freely mingle with others like himself). Ho,Ho,Ho.

I find it disturbing that the media is not all interested in the Clerk’s race. But, why should they be. Perret has been there for almost 8 years and done a fair job. Certainly not outstanding by any stretch of the imagination, but fair. And after all, who the heck really cares who the clerk of court is?

EXCUSE ME. BUT IF 90% OF THE EMPLOYEES COULD SPEAK OUT, THEY CARE VERY MUCH AND THEY WORK FOR THE PUBLIC (THAT'S YOU) UNDER STRESS EVERY DAY, THE COMMUNITY SHOULD CARE TOO.

I agree, Crow.......one never knows when they may end up needing the services of the Clerk of Court office...when a lien on property needs to be recorded, this is the place you have to go...to get a marriage license, this is the place...to file a claim against someone who has harmed you or your family, this is the place to go...to file a Protective Order, this is the place to go...to research property or mortgage records, this is the place to go...for traffic violations, for family court, criminal court....it's like saying what is the public library good for....or what is the news stations good for...if we choose not to vote, then we shouldn't complain about the way things are. This Clerk's election is of utmost importance ..it's a VERY important position because the Clerk is responsible for the maintenance of all these records & documentations, etc...his responsbility also is to be a servant to the public...his credentials, experience & abilities are of utmost importance....& to want and/or, need, the service of the Clerk's office, one would want to be assured of his integrity, honesty, abilities, his knowledge, his sense of caring & support, his intentions & trust, his caring that your needs at the Clerk's office be met...your time & efforts, your money should be treated w/respect...life is hard these days in this computerized, complicated world....only the candidate who meets these high standards should have this position....yes, this is a VERY important election & I urge you to vote for Roger Lehman....I am...he's the man for the job for he lives these qualifications.

Maybe he'll even lower some of the fees the clerk's office charges for these various services.
I recently recorded a succession on my Mom's estate (very simple succession - no siblings involved, no disputes, nothing) and the clerk's fees for this were $350.00. And that's after my attorney did all the work. All the clerk's office had to do was record it.
A couple of years ago, I recorded a power of attorney document, and that cost me $80.00.
This is all for maybe ten minutes work for each document on the part of the clerk's office.
Wish I could get paid an hourly rate like that.

Have you people considered the possibility that our Clerk of Court is simply not very smart ? A controlling individual such as that must be very insecure. I'll be willing to bet there is criminal activity going on in that office because of the way he deals with people and employees. If we could find out, chances are he is up to something and does not want it to get out, otherwise, he would not be so controlling and restrictive.

And Mr. TBear, a whistleblower has a prime opportunity when a campaign is going on. The public wants to know what is going on. I know several employees there who want to talk, but are afraid. What is being hidden ?

THE PROBLEM IS THESE ARE GOOD EMPLOYEES THAT WALK A TIGHT ROPE EVERY DAY, AFRAID TO TALK, AFRAID OF MAKING MISTAKE WHICH IS VERY HUMAN, AFRAID OF BEING SEEN WITH SOMEONE THAT THE CLERK OR HIS ASSISTANT MAY DISLIKE. HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO WORK IN THOSE CONDITIONS EVERY DAY? ? THEY DO. WHEN MR. DAN WAS IN OFFICE THEY WERE A FAMILY, NOW THEY DO NOT KNOW WHO TO TRUST.

Based on what I have learned, Mr. Lehman upholds a sound reputation. Most folks, like myself, vote on what is seen & heard, because let's face it, this is how we have to vote for the presidential election, the governor's, etc, based on what we hear, see & ultimately, believe. We rarely get to know these candidates, so we have to make some sort of assessment on a personal level. This race is the talk of my neighborhood & it is apparent we are all voting for Mr. Lehman, based on his reputation & his qualifications. I read this talk board every day, I read the newspapers, I listen to folks talk & I pay heed to my gut feeling & ultimately make a judgment call. I've been reluctant to post any comments until I was sure of my decision. My decision was confirmed when I was meeting w/a friend for lunch & he had to stop at the Clerks office to record a document. The charges were so absurd. I rarely have a need to frequent the place & am not familiar w/the costs for anything there, but my friend surely is. This happened to be the topic of conversation at lunch that day & after listening to my friend, it was the turning point in my task to make a decision for this particular race. If we don't stand for something, we WILL fall for any thing.

II finally found Lehman’s website. His news page shocked me.
I am dumbfounded that the Louis Perret does not know what is and is not of public record, after all he is the clerk, isn’t he?
That alone is enough reason for him to go.

Public record is supposed to be anything paid for with public money. The only exemptions should be active criminal investigations, juvenile records, private employee data like medical history etc.
For a Clerk of Court, the official record keeper of the parish and court record to not know or subvert that in any way is shameful. It makes one wonder what he is afraid of becoming public.
He does not deserve our support, nor our money. $8 million in slush funds that he has overcharged the public to accumulate. And such paltry raises for staff, yet, didn't he just get a $28,000.00 per year raise ?

ZOE, What is going on I've been doing my best trying to be "in the know" with this race, in particular - since there was an earlier report of Mr Lehman going to the court house & then, just reading the last couple of postings, I'm assuming that Mr Roger Lehman was denied records he requested - if this is, indeed, the case, then I consider Louis Perret a disgrace to hold the title of a public servant !!!! That is down-right DIRTY ! Had I not already made my decision for Roger Lehman, these postings would have cinched it for me !!!

Roger Lehman, #61 on the ballot, is made of tough stuff. He is not only loyal, honest & true to his word, he is BY FAR, too intelligent to be affected by such childish jibberish. This act of Louis Perret is just simply juvenile & now, an adult in age, but certainly not in his duty as a PUBLIC servant, this action Aof his speaks loudly of a haughty spirit . Makes my skin crawl.
