Well here we go again, the only thing I saw accomplished worth a dang was the 6 to 3 vote to back the home builders in obtaining federal funds for Verot School. Ignorance again showed its face during this discussion. Comments made by the two broken spokes in the wheel, about this subject, were completely asinine.
Although the main problem of traffic on the southside is the new homes and addition of subdivions on the southside, at least the home builders are attempting to find a solution and not overlooking the situation leaving up to city government to get the job done.
The rest of the meeting went something like this: "BLAH,BLAH,BLAH,BLAH,BLAH, BLAH, BLAH". I',m tired of hearing the whining done by these two councilmen. Voting for MLK is over, done deal, live with it, or instead of making idle threats do what my grandmother told me to do many times "crap or get off the pot"!!!

Sorry forgot to mention the cell phone issue they are trying to pass. I will agree there are a lot of people making what they believe to be essential telephone calls while driving that are actually b.s. calls. There are also truely important telephone calls from businesses contacting their employees in the field for business purposes. Emergency services from police to fire to ambulance that the drivers of these vehicles have to occupy one hand with some time of communications device whether it be two-way radio or even nextel.
To police such an issue would be nearly impossible, but the tickets would generate more money for the LCG, that has no money.
What about the people that are driving down the road eating and drinking, Ive seen that many times. Ive even seen them driving with their knees with a hamburger in one hand and a drink in the other.
Ive seen a guy evening reading a book whne driving while passing him on Kaliste Saloom.
What about the gal putting her makeup on in the mornings while driving using her rearview as a makeup mirror.
What about shuffling through your cd/tape collection or looking down to turn up the volume knob on your radio while driving.
What about the driver who is so instensly engaged in conversation with his passenger that he keeps taking his eyes off of the road and looking as his passenger to stress his points.
Then it comes to an exclusion for the law that if you have a hands free device you can use your cell phone. Well I dont know about the rest of us here but alot of cell phones dont have the blue tooth technology for the hands free. So i guess if the law passes Cingular, Centennial, and Nextel are gonna make a lot of sales for upgrades.

The simple fact of the matter is that ANYTHING one does besides drive when behind the wheel, could endanger the driver and others. For our council, or any legislative body to single out cell phone usage is pointless.
I too, have passed peolpe on the road reading newspapers, reading books and driving in fog (yes!!), eating whoppers, salads, whatever, reaching on the floor, cuddled against car door on phone, playing with radio, etc., etc.
All could result in accidents. One cannot pass a law against stupidity, no matter how tempting. If that were the case, a law would have to ban Williams & Benjamin from opening their mouths to restrict flow of stupidity that seems to erupt with each observation they make.
And then, how could our LPD enforce that, when they apparently cannot police themselves; illegal wiretaps, drug abuse, ethical violations, misuse of public property, private work on public time, and so on. Why not place 2 or 3 officers at busy intersections (Johnston @ Guilbeau,Ambassador, or Kaliste @ambassador,Pinhook and stop the red light abuse, a very real danger to everyone) oops, no we have to nail the poor s.o.b. who drove 35 in a 30 bacause it is easier money. Or hey, traffic cameras (big brother) so we can generate more money for "Cons Govt".

As our local government continues to erode our rights as citizens, I am amazed there is little if any public outcry. The local fish wrap is so in love with this current administration there is no way they would ever publish anything negative about these yahoos. As "our leaders wander down the path of collectivism and turns good ole joeyland into a fine socialist community (with the help of our so called republican leaders) we the citizenry of Lafayette stand sheepishly by and just watch. I have never seen such apathy in any city I have lived. Just wait, I promise all our elected officials (with the help of the chamber of horrors and the local repub exec comm.) will jump up and endorse the next wave of tax increases this administration proposes.

Thats what I am talking about. If they want to change the name that bad I am sure if Benjamin and Williams offer a resolution for the city to pay each resident for the paperwork change of drivers licenses, vehicle registrations, business invoices, business cards, licenses, etc, I'm sure the people on Willow would not mind the change. But again let the people on Willow make the decision.
Benjamin really shows his support for tax paying business owners in Lafayette when he tells the owner of that business on Willow st last night to "go back to New Orleans". Thats real professional and going to attract other businesses to the area.
Then he and Williams tag team a young lady for obtaining signatures from residents on Willow that don't want the name changed, and after she told them there was no businesses nor residents she could find that wanted the name changed. Again, anyone that speaks negative of their little project gets harrassed by them.

It appears that there are not enough interested citizens to have the name changed. I believe Percy pointed out that a majority could petition and have the name of any street changed. We could have a MLK Street, Drive, Avenue, Blvd, Parkway,Freeway if enough people wanted it, but that is not the case. I just think Williams is trying (and succeeding) in getting his name out before his voting public and does not really care about the name change, and if that is not the case, why the sudden urgency ? If it is a good idea now, it will be a good idea in two years, but then Williams will be gone. I am dying to see his replacement.

Do you think that close ties to Governor Blankstare could have anything to do with his appointment ?
Holding a real management job has little to do w/anything; look at division of administration head, J. LeBlanc. Does anything on his resume indicate a value of $185,000 per year in salary. Where could he make that in the real world? How about legal counsel B Boudreaux (New Iberia) who was trying to get the LSU job for his girlfriend. How about her appointee for the New Orleans Levee Board ? As one goes over her entire staff, you can see why she got in over her head because political allies were rewarded with jobs, even though they may not be really qualified at what they do for state.
I too would give jobs to friends, but would place non-qualified people in jobs like Cosmetology Board, or some such other useless board that this state is infested with.
