I agree it is a good gesture and regardless if it was indeed to passify the two councilman who keep raving about the same issue that was already voted on, they should accept it and be done with it.
I guess next they'll want to rename Lafayette

I like the idea of honoring Rosa Parks in that way. Seems proper and fitting, considering the history.
I just wanna know ... been bugging me for a long time ... who the heck is Johnston? Why is our city's main thoroughfare named after him?

A confederate general. do not know why, Pierre Gustave Beauregard was a general from La in the great war of northern aggression

perhaps i should have been a little more clear. Joseph Johnston was a confederate general. I believe the street was named after him. PGT Beauregard was a famous confederate general from La, and it would have been more appropriate to have named street after him, but then this is Lafayette.

This should prove that the 7 LCG members aren't racist or part of the "Good Ole Boys" club. This was economically feasible, didn't put a burden on local residents or businesses, and honors a courageous woman. Had councilmembers voted against this renaming, then there would be a HUGE problem to address in Lafayette government.
