I'm sure I have hit on this thread before(lol) but I really believe it's time we conservatives take back control of the Republican Party here in Lafayette. I get so tired of republican committe members writing editorials on why we should be taxed more, how great joey is, how government should become more involved in our lives etc. etc. etc. Let's stand up for self determintaion and end this cradle to grave government nanny state that the local republicans are trying to build. Let's look at who we have elected and send them a message that "we're tired of it and we ain't gonna take it anymore". I've been a Republican since way before "open primaries" and remember when Republicans stood for something. I say call your representative and tell them how you feel and why!

I am more of a conservative than a liberal, but I'll call myself a (somewhat) liberal conservative a la John McCain, who is the only politician I agree with 100% on every issue. I want smaller government, less spending, and less taxes. I also think that government should stay out of people's lives as much as possible. That's why Joey D and the other Republicans in Lafayette boggle my mind.
A sad day when the conservative voters side with the Democrats on a tax issue.

Well maybe I ain't a (little r) Republican. Maybe I don't fit in with these tax and spend liberal republicans here in Lafayette. I guesss I'm the one who is wrong because the laf republican committe keeps telling me I need to be taxed more and more and more. I usta be a member of the chamber of commerce but I see this group has become a socialist soceity with vast numbers of memebers from the government sector who's (seems to me) goal is to increase taxes and taxes some more. Looks to me like lafayette is turned upside down. Maybe we, I'm assuming some others feel this way, should start a new party here in Lafayette. Let's call it the conservative,no more taxes party or maybe we could get a legitimate conservative republican who will run against all these tax and spend liberals with rs behind their names.

joey's been an elected republican official for the what? last 2 years? So can anyone list for me ten conservative issues, acts, things etc. that joey has accomplished, proposed, done etc. I really want to know. Remember passing MORE taxes or creating more government jobs are not conservative! TY

Oh my, after reading that idiotic article quoting durel this morning, we need to find a real conservative Republican to run against this man. Heck maybe the dems can find a somewhat conservative, I'll vote for them.

Finally after all the bs, joey admits he's a firm believer and member of the "good ole boys". I bet his attitude sure will help businesses relocate to Lafayette huh? I can see it now,,, abc a multi billion dollar corp reads joey's latest "silver dog bone firmly planted(inserted) in his mouth" comment and says oh yeah we really need to move there, it's louisiana at it's finest. We could be a part of the poorest, over taxed, and poorly educated community in America and be led by a complete fool! Go joey go. Now if we could just send video tapes from our duncil meetings or dee's arrogance toward the taxpayers, I'm sure that would seal the deal. Folks, like I always heard... truth is stranger than fiction. Keep yakking joey, you sure make "good copy".

C.B. Forgotston is a self described non-partisan, single entity think tank. He is a true believer in good honest government. He, in my opinion, is brillant and a joy to read. A real good guy who is honestly trying to bring reform to Louisiana politics.

I was a little embarrassed by Mr Durel's remarks regarding mutual abuse of public funds by our legislators.Does G W Bush and Durel share speech writers ? They both seem to insert their feet a lot.
I think Lafayette can justify state funds as we generate a lot, and do not get our share for some reason; can you spell Michot ? He has no problem with special interest type legislation so why would he be ashamed to ask for our share of road money ?

Tomorrow night the Lafayette Parish GOP Executive Committee is hosting the 2007 Republican Campaign Kick-off at the Petroleum Club. If you really want to get some conservatives elected, it might be the place to be to see who's considering running and who's already thrown in his/her hat.
Sounds like a lot of Republicans from all over the state will be there. Reservations are recommended but not required.
7 p.m. $30/person

I've been. Process is closed except to the insiders. You will get no new blood that way. They will endorse Durel for president, Comeaux for Assessor, Perret for Clerk.

I wonder if Glenn Armentor and the other DINOs will be there. Can you believe they think Joey is one of the best mayors/presidents this city has ever had?

He must be benefitting some way. Wasn't Armentor the same lawyer who defended Lt DiBenedetto and said he was innocent of all charges of abuse of position. And finally after 6 long months of leave with full pay (poor fellow), the Lt admitted that yes indeed, he had miss-used his position and personally benefitted so he was going to retire with full benefits. Yes Mr Armentor, your clients get what they deserve 98.9% of the time, no matter who you have to screw to get it for them. And now you come back to tell us how good a mayor we have. Personally, you lack any credibility whatsoever.

That buckles guy is a big supporter of joey and an elected statewide republican committe man. He is also an insurance salesman, not sure what his expertise is in redlight cameras but maybe he didn't need any. Just my opinion. I don't like no bid contracts seem kinda strange to me.i

I must wonder what the Buckel connection is as well.
And Joey, exactly how much money does that company that you are hiring get to extort from Lafayette citizens for citations anyway. Tell me again that this is not a racket and moneymaking scheme. We know public safety has nothing to do w/it.
