We are indeed sheep.
A company comes in from Arizona, offers the republican party chairperson a consultant fee which he accepts (very ethical fellow), offers to place cameras at intersections and in vans (mobile) to catch citizens violating traffic laws (they are the witness, not a police officer), mail a CIVIL citation, skip the court process, and get a rake off of the fine. The mayor selects the company w/o bids being deciding factor. Remember that this is how parking tickets are handled in New Orleans. the meter maids are Nazi's. is that really where we want to be ?
And we are supposed to accept this ? This is credible ? I love the argument "if you aren't doing anything wrong, you needn't worry". If that is the case, let's turn all police officers into bounty hunters. Give them a piece of the tickets and you will never have to worry about police raises again. Of course, we will all be driving 10 mph to avoid any risk of a ticket.

I watched "state of Parish"speech last night. I saw Joey trying to make amends for screwups. I was amused to watch him say he wanted to add a prosecutor to city police to increase convictions etc. Does he not yet know this is the DA's area, not city ? Does he think bringing back a DWI enforcement (ATAC) will resolve antyhing to do w/crime ? Why not special task force to concentrate on bad neighborhoods and drug traffic which is the root of most crime. Yes, 80% of crime is committed by small group of career thugs. Let's focus on that......That would reduce thefts, car break-ins etc. Let Chief do his job (a professional) and not waste resources on fluff like DUI "crackdown", topless bar patrol, illegal gambling etc.

There are quite a few elected Republicans here but they are not conservative. Look at bills introduced and votes taken at both the local and state level. All these elected people want is more taxes.

Interesting that a not so conservative republican state senator has banded together with a very liberal independent state rep to oppose a fairly conservative state rep. Looks like the socialist wing in our parish is taking control. Scary. Did I agree with every vote ernie made? NO, but he was much more conservative than our senator. The very wealthy people in this community are trying to control who represents us. Scary.

Did any of you guys or gals read the blog in the advertiser about Michot? If you didn't read Claudle's blog you should. It made my blood boil.

I do not see that any of the republicans are true to basic republican principle; less government is good government.
The harsh reality is that public service is America's form of royalty, and once in, these people take the offices from the people. This is true of both the democrat and republican parties.

Did anyone see where an Independent showed up at Bobby's campaign stop and tried to hand out leaflets touting her platform against Don Trahan?

getting close to qualifying time...am hearing rumblings in courthouse about assessor and clerk of court. hope it is true. I think a simple grassroots campaign could dispose of both of them, and they need to go.wish someone would qualify against president; he needs a wake up call.

Sure hope that what you are hearing turns out to be true. Looks as though we have a few kingdoms here. Hopefully a few people will step up and make challenges to what we have.

I was watching the history channel the other night and there was a story about the Roman Republic, around 500 to 100 b.c. What was interesting, was, they only allowed the politicians to be "king" for one year, then they had to step away. (Julius Caesar changed that).
Were people that much smarter that long ago ?

Been looking for a few good conservative repubs here in this city. All I see are ex democrats who still adhere to the democrat party line. Hell ain't it a bunch of repugs that have graced us with redflic cameras? Didn't that fat guy who heads up redflic here actually run as a Republican in the last election? What's wrong here?

Well ij, the problem started when Reagan came in, and suddenly it became fashionable to be a republican. Then a drift from republican principles began. Now we have republicans in the white house who run enormous deficits, create inflation by spending (mostly on war), create even more bureaucracy (homeland security). On a local level, our tax assessor is basically true to republican principle ie. pro business, anti little guy (homeowner), although he was a huge Blanco supporter (??). Our sheriff is a democrat in name but acts like a republican. Our mayor says he was republican, but I am still waiting to see any republican type initiatives (more bureaucracy via expansion into private sector is hardly republican). Our Clerk of Court, well, he plays both sides but pretends to be a republican, but he gouges the public with high fees, travels extensively on our dollar, you know, usual democrat stuff. Ernie Alexander was a true republican, but he quit. Michot, hmmmm, RINO comes to mind. And the fat guy actually sold Redflex cameras through his son, fat guy junior.
What is wrong here is apparently we vote by party identification without seeing what a candidate stands for. Party should not matter. And we get what we deserve.

I see a rapid decline in our democracy. Very few people vote anymore, roughly 1/2 of registered voters. I feel something strong should be done to force people to at least vote, even if they have no clue what they are voting for. My suggestion is if a person fails to vote once every 4 years then they must forfeit their drivers license for 2 years. No exceptions. One of two things would happen, and they would both be good; more electors, or less people on the road. A win-win situation.

The time has come for the formation of a new conservative party here. Look at who we have that tries to pass themselves of as conservatives here. Elected republicans who shun other conservatives and back independents and liberals. Republican party honchos who back bigger government and deliver us speed vans and redlight cameras that attempt to take away our right to due process and increase taxes. I'm fairly well fed up with what we have here.

Interesting find. Looked up the voting records for a few of our local sate legislators. In my opinion there's no way to tell the difference between republicans and democrats, they all vote like liberals. Why do we continue to elect liberals?

Starting with Michot. I wonder if his little friend Cortez will follow suit ? I already know; Yes.
And we have a guy who works for the D A who is elected to council, but cannot serve because of the dual office holding law. "We'll see if we can work out something" he says. Sure. More of the same ? Where is his employer, the D A ?

It is the AG's responsibility to enforce the Dual Office Holding Laws of Louisiana, not the ethics commission. He ( the AG ) does not need a complaint to do so. Now, the AG's Office is aware of the possible violation. I say possible, as the violation does not occur until the person is sworn in. Let’s see what the AG does or doesn’t do.

Elections : an opportunity to vote against some incumbents. Stagg versus Durel, anyone versus Jindal, Nungesser versus Dardenne. who else ?

Did anyone notice that Stagg, the democrat candidate for mayor had the same basic platform as Durel ?
