Hopefully everyone realizes that if joey gets everything he wants in the way of taxes and fiber optic bonds, we the taxpayers of this city and parish will be in debt to the tune of $1,000,000,000.00 (add it up for yourself if you don't believe me). That's a billion dollars with a capital B. Now folks, that's a heck of a lot of debt that we the taxpayers and property owners MUST pay off. Hopefully y'all realize that if for some reason the sales tax revenues don't come in the way joey theorizes we the owners of property and taxpayers will be forced to make up, the difference. Are you willing to bet your future on these propositions? I'm not!

That is just about what LUS is supposed to be worth ! Maybe we could sell and have no debt , because based upon past performance, LCG is not likely to come through.

Zoe, using the K-Mart store would make too much sense. Don't forget, these people like to do things the hard way. If the old Superstore can be turned into a sweet movie theater, then the old K-Mart building wshould be more than sufficient.

I was just wondering how much the commission will be on a BILLION DOLLAR bond sale? Why do we "bond" everything??? Does anyone find it intriguing that the duncil asks the bonding company agent to answer legal questions? Why do we have city attorneys?? Why can't joey "pay as you go"? Makes more sense to be less in debt, but when it ain't joey's money, why should he care? joey, joey, joey why must you put OUR future in debt to try to create a "legacy" for yourself?

OK everyone and I mean ever single resident of Lafayette Parish (including chillins of any age), whip out that checkbook and write dunce a big fat check for $5,000.00( for a family of four just sit right down and write it for $20,000.00) to cover the cost of the NEW taxes joey is proposing(never mind that your homeowners insurance just went up 20-70% or your house has or will be re-assessed)joey needs your help). I see the mayor of Broussard says his city don't need no stinking new tax to pay for roads, wonder if joey ever found a tax he didn't covet? Hey ya think the laf republican party is gonna back all these taxes? Let's watch and see.

ABBD, I sure hope you are wrong about those figures. I know it will be a lot with everything combined.
I hope we have more than the usual 7% voter turnout. Vote no to any new taxes and don't vote for any incumbents.
We have so many things coming at us all at once I.E. home owners' insurance increase, flood insurance increase, increase in property taxes, gasoline taxes and I am sure I missed something.
If all else fails, maybe we can be annexed into the town of Broussard.

Is there any organization in Lafayette Parish that will be active in notifying voters to go vote? Any group or organization opposed to the new taxes, that will be involved with trying to stop it?

I compute approx $10,000 per citizen - 100,000 people, $1,000,000,000 of debt. Does not include interest at this time of course, so abbd it is closer to an amount of $20,000 per person.
And Tareau, there is no chance that voters will be alerted because no one wants people to vote. They will think for us.
Did you see where the Municipal association is now jumping on LUS bandwagon re: ftth ? Tom Ed (former mayor of Baton Rouge and now president of lobby group) is saying court is not fair, If government cannot use undedicated utility money to cross fund a business venture such as ftth, how can they compete ? Gee, I wonder. That is why capitalism involves speculation and risk factors, something that our socialist Republicans cannot seem to grasp.

Gosh Z, you are correct. I forgot that it's now only a city tax and I included the population of the entire parish. I guess guest was right, my math skills are lacking (high paying but not good enough to get you off "food stamps"(now that's a new slogan for LEDA huh?)), BUT my BS detector is working fine, and these new taxes are sure BS! So we city folk, must write those checks, $10,000.00 a head, don't forget your chillins! And taureau, I'm sure every civic group, political party exec committe, every news outlet and especially every government or pseudo government group will be spreading the word about how we all gonna die if the oppressive taxes dunce proposes doesn't pass. New slogan "dunce can't do it with a bunch of new millions, so let's give him a BILLION".

Today, John Kennedy, State Treasurer, said we (Louisiana) went from 43rd. most taxed state to 11th. place in only 10 years.
What do we have to show for it? Certainly not roads. Someone said, tax money for roads were once handled by our legislators. Now, it is handled by Blanco. And, since Lafayette Parish didn't support Blanco, she is reluctant to send money this way. What have you dun for me lately, Is the response you get. Mais, C'est politique, Cher.
