I just did not know where to put this so figured to start a new thread. Driving on West Bayou Parkway last nigh through Greenbriar, only to be faced with a "political" traffic jam. Seems Mr Durel was being feted by Glen Armentor and the feel good Democrats. The story in the Independent was right - I should have avoided West Bayou and gone around. Question is, who paid for the Sheriff's deputies, busses, etc.? How did they get that set up, did they have a parade license to block the street? Hopefully not paid for by the Airport Commission (ok, bad joke). Anyway, if I want to throw a party can I get the same treatment? Looks like only those who rule us get the bennies.... Must have been a nice party, guess my invitation got lost in the mail??? splash out fubar

Fubar, the deputies were there because our invisible Sheriff was in attendance with the selected group of RINO's and apparently turncoat democrats, who are evidently part of theDurel "in-crowd". He of course has a right to raise funds where ever he can and from who ever supports his philosophy of government. Those people paid to kiss the ring.
I am disappointed that some fool like Armentor would actually say that Joey D is progressive, has done more (?) and in fact the best mayor ever in Lafayette and the paper would not challenge that statement. What exactly has he done or accomplished that is even remotely extraordinary, because I'm sure that I must have missed it.

You missed a wonderful party fubar, at least that's what I read in the advocate. Who do you think paid for the police? I'm sure it was us. I also have wondered exactly what dunce has done Z. I really have no clue except maybe wasting many months and many tax dollars on a losing tax proposition. If anyone does know just what dunce accomplished please post it.

My dad always told me "follow the money" to determine motivation, especially in politics. Let's see, a big party on West Bayou Pkwy mansion, attended by mayor (R), Clerk (R), Assessor (R), sheriff (D), DA (D), DA wannabe (D), council members (R), CAO of parish govt (R), big money players like a wealthy jewelery maker, ambulance owners (monopoly) . Looks like a lot of people whose own common interest is self-preservation. Lots of compliments, backslapping and self serving rhetoric, about all that they have done, all dutifully reported by Advertiser.
But what have they done ? Let's examine.
Lafayette is the third or fourth fastest growing parish in the state. Our crime rates have grown even faster, and we can no longer hang that on New Orleans refugees. Our traffic problems are becoming legendary. Our schools are in a state of decline even as the cost of running them grows exponentially. Our jail is poorly run (look at the deaths there) and badly miss-managed by a warden from I believe Minnesota. We have a tax assessor who is constantly looking at increased tax assessments to provide even more money for our "leaders" to miss-use. Our sheriff has no response whatsoever to crime. Our parish government steals salary from police and fire first responders and when caught refuses to do the honorable thing. Our parish council approved traffic cameras to raise even more money for the parish (it has nothing to do with traffic safety to be sure). Our foremost council issue seems to be naming of a street after someone who has never even been here and almost no one wants to run a business on a street so named. Our consolidated government is anything but consolidated (why do we have a city anything ?). Our Clerk of ct cuts employee benefits while amassing a huge surplus (sounds like Blankstare?) and then having the audacity to increase fees and bragging about fiscal responsibility. We cannot get a qualified person to even apply to be police chief. Our traffic engineer (Mr Trammel) is the only one EVER employed by the city-parish (hired by Bowen in first term), yet we have only added a few turn lanes as a traffic solution. Have any of you ever been in a city of this size with no overpasses (except ambassador at 90)? Duh ! Our city-parish planning, well need I even comment ?
I believe we are in bad need of political overhaul. It is readily apparent to me that we cannot rely on Armentor/Zuschlag/Stuller/Blanco to do what is best for Lafayette Parish, and that is a shame because evidently it is they who anoint the chosen few.
What have I missed ?

I would love to have been the proverbial fly on the wall at Mr Armantor's house for that event. What a collection of horse thieves that was. Best mayor ever ? Progressive and forward thinking ? Major accomplishments ? I must have blinked or perhaps was napping when all of that happened.
I hope someone runs against all of these people and reminds voters of campaign platforms, broken promises, miss-statements, lies and arrogance shown by this group. I think they all failed the "LEAP" tests with regard to performance for we taxpayers.

Sorry Lisa, that fly would have been swatted, probably by a burly deputy sheriff who was guarding that elite group. I think if only we could have thrown a net and had the contents removed, we would have taken a giant step forward in Lafayette. Why does the Advertiser even report comments made by a trial attorney anyway? Don't they pretty much lie for a living ? Would those comments have been published if it was negative ?
I have come full circle in political beliefs, from a Demo, to an independent , to a Rep and I think I am going back to democrat. I am ashamed of our locally elected Republicans. They have become everything that I disliked about the Democrats. It is indeed time for a change.

Well I'll say one thing for dunce and his cronies, they sure know how to give fair warning to anyone who might consider a run against the dunce. What a grand and obnoxious way to announce that all the "big money boys" are already in my corner so you don't have a chance. I say bah hooety to dunce and his band of clowns.. all these "big money boys" were backing your tax increase and y'all got y'alls arses kicked didn't you. We beat them once we can beat them again, stop being swayed by a bunch of guys who think they control our destiny. Do you think I care who "herbie", "richard" and "glen" want me to vote for? Boot em out!

Joey's definitely going to need all the help he can get. The people of Lafayette are sick of his shenanigans and questionable decisions. I think it's safe to say that his first term has been a complete disaster.
Let's count off the issues we have with Joey:
1. Fiber to the home 2. One-cent sales tax 3. Appointing an underqualified Randy Hundley 4. Pre-meeting meals 5. Giving in to the MLK folks 6. The River Ranch road/land sale 7. Blaming citizens for the problems with roads
What else am I missing? I'm sure there's more, but I can't seem to think.

8. The Duncil voting 4% pay raises for themselves (to increase their already outrageous $22,000.00 salary for their part-time jobs) 9. Taxpayer supplied Mardi Gras beads (to throw to us peons - who pay for them in the first place) 10. $4000.00 a year "travel expenses" for themselves
Next?

11: attempting to take $200,000.00 earmarked for police cars and giving it to "the arts". 12: allowing the lack of an adequately manned police force to continue even as we see large growth 13: eliminating or vastly reducing the "meals on wheels" program as he continues to "feed at the the government trough" 14: appointing that arrogant jabba as cao 15: Became an expert on citizen bashing (especially when he allowed his royal arse to be questioned by citizens). Y'all got more bring em on...

Well, apparently none of us has a clue about what makes a GREAT mayor, leader re: Advertiser today. Durel is already re-elected by acclaim. The great political analyst Armentor says so. Demos love him, and he is the dear of the RINO's. He is so good for Lafayette why bother even having an election ?

You right z, let's just appoint him dunce for life, give him a lifetime dunce award, name him dunce for ever and so on. One thing about ole joey, once a dunce always a dunce. Those monied arseholes don't speak for me or do they have my proxy to vote, lard, please find someone to run against this dunce. I need a private road to access my house because I'm tired of using public roads like the rest of the peasants. Think daigle will build me one also? Hell I went to school with them also.

And did anyone notice, our two favorite RINO's offices, Assessor and Clerk of Court were omitted as having to run for re-election. I suppose their re-election is a forgone conclusion or the Daily Disappointment feels the offices are of no consequence. Either is a bad conclusion.
