T-Bear, This past weekend my family and I went to a restaurant down town Lafayette. When we walked in the Place there were some people in the lobby, a few were smoking. I asked the hostess/manager about it. They shrugged their shoulders and said the bar was full and they were waiting on a table at the bar. What happened to "smoking areas"? Common sense would tell you smoke outside. A smoking section is like having a peeing section in a pool. Taureau

A smoking section is like having a peeing section in a pool. Taureau Lol, thats a good way to put it. I dont know I would guess they should have told their customers to smoke outside, your right its kinda common sense.

I say quit passing rules to regulate behavior that you disagree with. If an establishment allows smokers in, and you dislike the odor, do not favor the place with your business. If enough people do that, the establishment would cater to what the customers want.
EVERY time a law is passed, someone loses a freedom, that is a fact. I am not a smoker (quit 30 years ago) but I respect your right to do so. Seems to me that people who complain are really concerned about the lingering odor, not the smoke, which is removed by the a/c system. An odor will not kill you even if it is unpleasant.
How dare someone go into a smokey bar, and demand that everyone go o/s to smoke; you knew it was smokey before you entered. Common sense would tell you don't go if smoking is allowed and you do not like it; smokers pay to eat also. If you go into Popeye's you will reek of fried food when you leave, so do not go in if that is of a concern.
When did we start this in this country, if you are unhappy with something, change the rules so everyone abides by your standards. No tolerance.
I know smoking is not good for you, but then, auto fumes are toxic. Do we ban cars next? I think logic is getting twisted by "do gooders" who think they know what is right for you, even if you do not agree.
I look at it this way, If 32% of auto fatalities are caused by drinking drivers, then 68% are caused by sober drivers. With the logic of the "do gooders" we should ban driving sober. That is of course absurd, but why do we feel a need to control choices of others? This was America.
And by the way Taureau, that is why I do not utilize public pools.

Which, Zoe, is why my husband always says "God save us from those who try to save us". I'm a non-smoker myself and guess what? I don't go to bars where smoking is allowed. I can very readily intoxicate myself in my own home, thanks. Teeheehee
