Abbd, I saw this article as soon as it was posted online this morning. It did say synagogue, but I was glancing through and didn't catch it. Later on, I found the apology from the editor. I don't know which is worse, the reporter for doing an entire article calling a Catholic church a synogogue or the editor for not properly proofreading the story. I don't even think we should call this paper the fiswrap anymore. The fish deserve better.
You want good reporting? Check out The Ind. It comes out once a week and their reporters actually do research.

Anyone else notice how the "bird cage liner" (formerly the fish wrap) is concertrating on crime outside Lafayette and beating us to death about COX? I believe it's to divert out attention away from joey and duncil's attempt to seize more of our hard earned money($2,000,000.00 more of our hard earned dollars being thrown around by joey). To me it's kinda tough to take anything seriously written in a daily paper when the writers for the paper don't know the difference between a cathedral and a synagogue.

I was talking to my neighbor this morning as we ran, and I asked him what he thought about joey's latest proposed expenditure of taxpayer dollars. He had no idea durel was gonna spend $2,000,000.00 on raises across the board for lcg employees. You know why he didn't know? It's because the daily bird cage liner and none of the JNS (joey's news service ,local tv stations) haven't done a story on it. Guess to get the real sccop on what's happening in our city, you have to read an out of town newspaper. Sad, really sad. Remember if they can't understand the difference between a Cathedral and a Synagogue, how can they they have a clue about anything?

Thanks for the Advocate I guess ! It is a shame when all the local press does is regurgitate factoids spewed out by local politicians w/o investigating facts. Sometimes, politicians are not factual in what is being toldto the electorate. Sometimes, the politician does not know what is true (and that is the sad part).

I watched a "labor day" story on KATC this morning about mothers in labor at a local hospital. Either the young reporter was trying to be cute or he is an idiot, or possibly both, either way, KATC goes down several notches for airing such a ridiculous story for "labor day."

I found a nice little quote that sums up how I feel about the joey's news service here in Lafayette and most newspapers in the world(includes abccbsnbccnn etc.)......Do not fear the enemy, for your enemy can only take your life. It is far better that you fear the press, for they will steal your HONOR. That awful power, the public opinion of a nation, is created in America by a horde of ignorant, self-complacent simpletons who failed at ditching and shoemaking and fetched up in journalism on their way to the poorhouse. -Mark Twain....

I heard on the news last night Governor Blanco state that she was in Cameron last week to “celebrate” the one year anniversary of Hurricane Rita. Come on gov, celebrate; what a poor choice of words. I might have been in Cameron to “commemorate” or simply “remember” but certainly not celebrate.

Guest, I also read Blanco's comment about "celebrating" Hurricane Rita. A poor choice of words indeed. Last weekend, Blanco, also apologized to the people of Cameron and other Parishes about the "Federal Government's" slow response to giving out the money to the hurricane victims. This week, I heard David Vitter, Bobby Jendal and John Kennedy all say that the money has been in Baton Rouge since January 2006. Blanco said a bald-face lie. That was another one of her "campaign ads". I called Blanco's office Wednesday asking her to make a public retraction and set the record straight. She (Blanco) is the reason for the delay in giving out the money to the victims of Hurricane. That may be her October surprise, another fruitless campaign ad. I can't believe no one from the media jumped all over this.

Don't you love the commercials "Governor Blankstare's Road to recovery Plan"? She is holding 3.2 billion dollars to unleash in election year on the gamble that people are so dumb they think she cares. Drive around New Orleans and look at the empty houses waiting for that insurance money (thank you Mr Donelon) or recovery money (thanks Kat). By comparison, that is like seeing EVERY home in Lafayette ravaged a year after the fact. Maybe she chose the word celebrate on purpose. But hey, the teachers are only $2,000 under the "southern" average, cause for some backslapping.

I wonder how the local daily birdcage liner missed the story about the chief's secretary filing a suit against the lcg concerning the illegal wire tap under her desk? It's sure reported in the baton rouge paper. Log on there and read it. It's kinda interesting.

Guest editorial in today's edition of fishwrap..a retired teacher echo's most of our poster's feelings very well re: taxes, cameras etc
I read article re: New Black Panther group, led by "reverend" in New Iberia to protest the tear gassing of a disorderly crowd. I am disappointed that the Sheriff chose to ignore the threat by group to resort to violence if Sheriff did his job again. A reverend ? And is there a new Ku Klux Klan also ?

I hope everyone noticed the little blurb in the Daily Disappointment on Page 5A. Can you imagine anyone out there thinks our legislators and Governor deserve a RAISE ? Personally I believe she owes us a refund ! Watch how quickly that slips through.

The governor and legislature want a raise ? After their dismal failure to act in last years crisis ? Do you know the state received the money for rebuilding back in January or so, but the Governor is holding up fund distribution until ? re-election time ? I think they should give back the money they received already, much less an increase. The same is true for council/mayor.

I still say that anytime a person writes a letter to the editor advocating raising my taxes, that he ,she or it should have filled out a public disclosure form letting we the taxpayers know if they or their families either are employed by or do business with the local government.

Ya know, I haven't had a "drink" in many years, but something I heard on local radio this morning almost made me take one. Did any of you people happen to hear that hehehehehe hard hitting interview between info babe radio host and dunce and jabba? Man alive those two sorry arse folks sure do believe that they are entitled and I mean entitled to every dollar we have. These two twits really are arrogant and feel empowered to pay themselves whatever they want! Bozos, that's my money you are using to pay yourself those inflated salaries. Sad sad sad! I need a shower after listening to those two guys. So many other comments I might make but I believe this is a G rated website. Why, we should be honored that the ruling class cares enough about us to throw us trinkets(that we bought them) from their perches high above us. Vote em out!

After reading that article in today's fishwrap. I am more convinced that the ruling aristocracy here in lafayette is very much out of touch with reality and the average taxpayer. If dunce hasn't been hurt by his latest debacle, than I'm a monkey's uncle. This latest tax vote was in my opinion a defining moment in joey's political career, and a reflection of his abilities. I don't think joey has a clue. I think we have promoted joey way beyond his pay grade. Vote him out and send jabba back to tv.

I was interested in why, Gobb Wiliams, a democrat, was quoted in headline saying Durel was not hurt in tax election but in article indicated the exact opposite. I also remember this gentleman being a staunch supporter of the fiber issue. Very credible person.
Quest, my only comment to you is thanks for the lengthy expose of Mr Durel. Were I running against him, I would post that and let his own words choke him. All of our local republicans are people who have switched parties for to capitalize on the conservative movement (some would label them opportunists) but their true colors are definitely tax and spend. Our tax assessor campaigns for HIGHER taxes on homeowners. What is wrong with that picture ?
I realize that taxes are a necessity. I realize the courthouse has been outgrown. I also know that this did not happen overnight, and evidently, judging from Quest's post, our leaders have failed us. Look around; population of Iberia, St Martin, Vermilion, St Mary, St Landry have all grown substantially. It is apparent to anyone that they have maintained and modernized their public buildings better than we have. If you do not take care of what you have, why should we give out new toys ?
