One of Lafayette’s hidden and often overlooked assets is Stroud’s Shady Oaks on Industrial Parkway. Stroud’s is located in an unassuming metal building in an industrial area of the city but don’t let its location or building dissuade you from venturing in. Dwight Stroud serves some of the finest steaks in the country, as attested to by the awards on the wall. I had the pleasure to dine there last night and had forgotten just how good his steaks were. I had a large ribeye cooked medium rare and it was absolutely fantastic. Their onion rings are the best anywhere, too. The previous night, I had dined at Doe's Place on Pinhook. There was no comparison. Stroud’s offered a superior steak.

I believe that a 16 ounce ribeye was $28.00, but I do stand to be corrected. Their prices are comparable to Ruth's and Doe's for the steaks. I like Ruth's filets, too. I would not have a problem going to Ruth's for a filet and Stroud's for a ribeye. Certainly Stroud’s is more laid back and don’t forget, he only has about a dozen tables where Ruth’s has dozens of tables. And, when is the last time that you have been out to eat and been greated by the owner? That is the Stroud's difference, not a huge corporation but one man running a very fine dining establishment.

I was in Stroud's a couple of Friday nights ago and the steaks are still mighty darn good.
Dress code is casual to coat and tie. The place is pretty laid back and casual, but I would not wear shorts there. Nice jeans or slacks with a nice shirt would work well there.

I have called Stroud’s too and passed by. I sure hope they have not closed. I went to Copeland’s, no comparison to Dwight Stroud’s steaks, same with laFonda. Stroud’s is the best. If they are closed, it is a loss for the area.

I was driving by today and looked inside and it looks like we've eaten our last steak at Strouds. Those onion rings were good too.

I heard from a 3d party that Stroud's closed because of financial problems caused by Stroud's family member who had taken over the business. This is just rumor but might have some truth as they said that old customers are taking up a collection to help take care of him.
