Wow; Ed McMahon, Farah, Michael Jackson, Karl Malden,Steve McNair, and Walter Cronkite (dying) all passing so close together.
The state is finally cracking down on little town radar traps like Washington (miles from interstate).
Jindal cutting funding to higher education? Wasn't the budget based on $30/barrel oil? Does that mean in 2 months the governor will suddenly find a billion or so surplus to restore cuts? Wasn't Jindal all about improving education in Louisiana?
The Lafayette City Police have a SWAT team on location for a murder suspect and no one is watching the back door so the suspect just walks out?
Obama is in Russia asking the Soviets to help w/the Taliban. Is he not aware that the Taliban already defeated the Soviets in a long war?
We have a multi trillion dollar deficit and now we are looking at socialized medicine?
Must have something to do with the lack of rain.
BTW, our Clerk of Court has a nice tan. Another Florida trip on taxpayer dollar?

What is the push for cap and trade and who is pushing for it? I am not an economist but it would seem NAFTA was the death knell for many American industries, not the least of which was the auto and steel industrycosting this nation thoiusands perhaps millions of jobs.
This may well kill the domestic oil industry as we know it.
And all this push for "green" in our country. Is there anyone out there still (Al Gore included) who really believes that man can do anything whatsoever about the climate. Global warming, what a crock. All we are doing is forcing Americans to be ashamed of their lifestyle (I do not see president or members of Congress in hybrids) and trying to emulate western Europe. Has Obama realized that western Europe is about the size of Texas?

I think that all this focus on green and carbon footprint comes from people who think we should be ashamed to have a higher lifestyle that disproportionately uses more energy per capita than others who share our planet.
Why the shame on having resources that others do not? Why would we kill our domestic oil industry now when we need it and have no practical replacement.
Where does Senator Landrieu stand on Obama's policies which are hurting Louisiana?
I pray for a huge turnover in the House of Representatives to more moderate people.

Okay, now I am getting just a little upset with the media and the treatment of our current white house occupant. I watched his little speech last night and he looked us right in the eye and lied repeatedly.
Yes,Bush left a deficit. But oh well, I doubled it in 6 months. Jobs were 'saved" by stimulus but in spite of that, the unemployment levels have risen 50% in the past 6 months, must be Bushs' fault. The federal government owns 60% of GM, many major banks, but Obama is not socialist . Government involvement in health care will actually save money, but he does not know how, and in fact has never read the legislation he is pushing for. Bush started war in Iraq/Afganistan so I will add more troops to get out quicker (?). Soldiers should pay for their own health care because they volunteered to join the military, hence, knew what they were getting into.
Health care is a crisis. Environment is a crisis. we must act now or else. Or else what? Canadians and Brits and French will quit coming here for medical treatment? I don't see anyone going over there for medical help. All studies I have seen is the actual temperatures have dropped, not increased. Global cooling was an issue only 20 years ago, and we have spent millions of dollars cleaning auto emissions, factory emissions etc. since so where does Al Gore get his 'facts' from? And does he not make a lot of money selling 'carbon credits"?

Obamacare. And we are using taxpayer dollars to tell us this is not what the bill says. I would have copied the bill but it is 2mb long. Still believe this is not a socialization effort?
Contact your Representatives and let them know how you feel about this. We, as a country, cannot afford another 1000 page bill to go through Congress without being read. Another 500 pages to go. I have highlighted a few of the items that are down right unconstitutional. • Page 22: Mandates audits of all employers that self-insure! • Page 29: Admission: your health care will be rationed! • Page 30: A government committee will decide what treatments and benefits you get (and, unlike an insurer, there will be no appeals process) • Page 42: The "Health Choices Commissioner" will decide health benefits for you. You will have no choice. None. • Page 50: All non-US citizens, illegal or not, will be provided with free healthcare services. • Page 58: Every person will be issued a National ID Healthcard. • Page 59: The federal government will have direct, real-time access to all individual bank accounts for electronic funds transfer. • Page 65: Taxpayers will subsidize all union retiree and community organizer health plans (read: SEIU, UAW and ACORN) • Page 72: All private healthcare plans must conform to government rules to participate in a Healthcare Exchange. • Page 84: All private healthcare plans must participate in the Healthcare Exchange (i.e., total government control of private plans) • Page 91: Government mandates linguistic infrastructure for services; translation: illegal aliens • Page 95: The Government will pay ACORN and Americorps to sign up individuals for Government-run Health Care plan. • Page 102: Those eligible for Medicaid will be automatically enrolled: you have no choice in the matter. • Page 124: No company can sue the government for price-fixing. No "judicial review" is permitted against the government monopoly. Put simply, private insurers will be crushed. • Page 127: The AMA sold doctors out: the government will set wages.. • Page 145: An employer MUST auto-enroll employees into the government-run public plan. No alternatives. • Page 126: Employers MUST pay healthcare bills for part-time employees AND their families. • Page 149: Any employer with a payroll of $400K or more, who does not offer the public option, pays an 8% tax on payroll. • Page 150: Any employer with a payroll of $250K-400K or more, who does not offer the public option, pays a 2 to 6% tax on payroll. • Page 167: Any individual who doesn’t' have acceptable healthcare (according to the government) will be taxed 2.5% of income. • Page 170: Any NON-RESIDENT alien is exempt from individual taxes (Americans will pay for them). • Page 195: Officers and employees of Government Healthcare Bureaucracy will have access to ALL American financial and personal records. • Page 203: "The tax imposed under this section shall not be treated as tax." Yes, it really says that. • Page 239: Bill will reduce physician services for Medicaid. Seniors and the poor most affected." • Page 241: Doctors: no matter what specialty you have, you'll all be paid the same (thanks, AMA!) • Page 253: Government sets value of doctors' time, their professional judgment, etc. • Page 265: Government mandates and controls productivity for private healthcare industries. • Page 268: Government regulates rental and purchase of power-driven wheelchairs. • Page 272: Cancer patients: welcome to the wonderful world of rationing! • Page 280: Hospitals will be penalized for what the government deems preventable re-admissions. • Page 298: Doctors: if you treat a patient during an initial admission that results in a readmission, you will be penalized by the government. • Page 317: Doctors: you are now prohibited for owning and investing in healthcare companies! • Page 318: Prohibition on hospital expansion.. Hospitals cannot expand without government approval. • Page 321: Hospital expansion hinges on "community" input: in other words, yet another payoff for ACORN. • Page 335: Government mandates establishment of outcome-based measures: i.e., rationing. • Page 341: Government has authority to disqualify Medicare Advantage Plans, HMOs, etc. • Page 354: Government will restrict enrollment of SPECIAL NEEDS individuals. • Page 379: More bureaucracy: Telehealth Advisory Committee (healthcare by phone). • Page 425: More bureaucracy: Advance Care Planning Consult: Senior Citizens, assisted suicide, euthanasia? • Page 425: Government will instruct and consult regarding living wills, durable powers of attorney, etc. Mandatory. Appears to lock in estate taxes ahead of time. • Page 425: Government provides approved list of end-of-life resources, guiding you in death. • Page 427: Government mandates program that orders end-of-life treatment; government dictates how your life ends. • Page 429: Advance Care Planning Consult will be used to dictate treatment as patient's health deteriorates. This can include an ORDER for end-of-life plans. An ORDER from the GOVERNMENT. • Page 430: Government will decide what level of treatments you may have at end-of-life. • Page 469: Community-based Home Medical Services: more payoffs for ACORN. • Page 472: Payments to Community-based organizations: more payoffs for ACORN. • Page 489: Government will cover marriage and family therapy. Government intervenes in your marriage. • Page 494: Government will cover mental health services: defining, creating and rationing those services.

Well, I suppose that all the talk about the "dumbing" down of America is true and that is what we have done. Look all around; some of the least accomplished, least experience people are holding public office, all the way up to the White House. Our industrial base is being destroyed, our schools graduate morons, our money is fast becoming worthless, class warfare is touted by our politicians, and Michael Vick is allowed to play football professionally(send the pig to Canada).
It is now readily evident that Mr. Obama does not have the ability, the wisdom nor experience to run this country to all but the blindest of loyalists/supporters. He is starting to make "Dubya" look pretty good.
This country will never outlast "Rome", and in fact, a third century celebration is starting to look a bit shaky.

I was watching HBO the other night, and turned on the bill maher program (brad pitt was guest) and Brad Pitt actually came out and said he had, unlike most people, had been to socialist countries, and found that things worked just fine.(I wonder what he based this astute observation on. )The audience applauded.
The moderator (Maher) went on to discuss the stupid people who were protesting the federalization of health care and government "competition" with private insurance companies. Basically he stated that anyone who protests is a puppet of the insurance companies and simply does not know what is in their best interest. Besides, Obama has the democratic votes and public mandate, so he should just go forward. No matter that he nor the Congress has even read the bill (who drafted this thing?)
I see that we are, as a nation, getting more polarized every day.

It just keeps on getting better. Now our president said he was unaware of the federal funds received by ACORN and perhaps an investigation is warranted.
I was under the impression that his job s listed included executive experience as a neighborhood organizer. Is he just getting senile alreadyor is it just a convenient memory? I cannot bear to watch Letterman tonight. When Obama lies, no one can address the false statements w/o being called a racist.

It is my opinion that Bill Maher is proof that we do not need to legalize drugs. I am amazed that a pothead like him is able to get a series deal from HBO. Makes me wonder about the politics of HBO. I often wonder if he ever listens to himself when sober because he comes across as a whiney idiot.

Just another comment in regards to health care as I have not seen too much from fellow posters: Does everyone think it is fair for people who do not work to receive the same medical coverage, through government subsidy, that people who do work and pay for coverage get? I do not, and as I see this health care "crisis" that seems to be the focal point, treating have nots the same as the "haves" when apparently 85% of country is satisfied with health care as it is. In an unrelated comment, this past year was one of the coolest in recorded weather history and now many scientists seem to think a global cooling is taking place based upon water measurements in the North Atlantic Ocean. And still the president is pushing cap and trade solutions.

Better yet, how about Michael Moore doing a movie on how capitalism has ruined the world.
This fat guy has issues with our health care system as well. He also in favor of ban on guns. I wonder what he likes about this country other than the obvious benefits of free speech and capitalism which have been very kind to him. And as a side note, our president is receiving praise from Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, and the Holocaust did not happen so I suppose Adolf Hitler was just a poor misunderstood politician who meant well.
look at all the people who support this trash. Where do we go next?

We all go to the polls this time (2010) and clean house of anyone, regardless of party affiliation or lack of, who supports this rabid and irresponsible excuse for a Congress.
And Japan says this may be the last Olympics EVER?? If global warming is the issue (and it is not fact) how will this disrupt the summer games? What an idiot. If Gore were correct, the winter games may have snow issues but that doesn't seem to be the problem either.
Why is everything a crisis now anyway? And if we are in fact past the point of no return, why worry?

I just saw a poll of 260,000 people on my Yahoo front page that asked people if they were happy or would rather relocate.
Over 1/2 would want to move to the USA (165,000 out of 260,000). If that is the case, maybe our president wants to change this country to one no one would want to move to. He is doinfg an excellent job in that case!
I did not see China or Russia on the list of favored destinations. Wonder why?

Well, the climate conference goes on, populated by a bunch of hypocrites who claim to worry yet leave huge "carbon footprints". There was so much demand for limos that the cars had to be imported from Germany. There are so many private jets they had to be stored in nearby regional airports. Obviously global warming does not apply to the delegates.
And all of this after the "climategate" proves that most of this is hoax.
Anybody else angry about the EPA taking over Congress' role and mandating without authority?
We need a president badly right now and we do not have one. Nor a Congress who represents the people.

I was listening to talk radio this afternoon and heard an interesting fact on the health care issue; A bill to allow consumers to purchase drugs from Canada/Mexico which would be cheaper or invite competition from drug companies was defeated. Apparently, the democratic party did not want that (republicans supported the bill) perhaps they are beholding to the drug companies.
Why isn't that on the news and why not ask madam Pelosi why if they are so hell bent on medical reform and stopping spiraling costs? Because that is not what this is about, that is why.
And don't you love the irony of the conference in Copenhagen on greenhouse gas/global warming being held in the midst of a huge blizzard!

I was listening to the Limbaugh show and his stand in, a Brit, was discussing health care, and he did not paint such a rosy picture of the situation in England/Canada, and in fact said, someone should roll a camera through their hospitals.
Well, with our media, I do not suppose that will happen.
On a note closer to home, there was an article on Page 2 of the Advertiser re. the traffic cameras in New Orleans and how much money they were generating for the cash starved metropolis. No pretense of safety issues, just the money. It is a sad day when our RINO public officials lie as much as the New Orleans Demos and even keep a straight face. I got a citation for right on red in New Orleans. They said I was probably right and did bot break any law but the could make me attend several hearings to protest and was it really worth the cost? Of course not. Cha-ching, $65 to Australia, $65 to NOLA
