Is any else around here as excited about the season premiere of Lost? I don't watch much television but my sister has gotten me hooked on this show.

What's lost? Hell. what is television? Newton Minnow was right about the vast wasteland, just 50 years too early.

"The Wire" is the only reason I still have HBO. If they cancel it, I'm done with em.

It's been voted best family television. Also, it's extremely well written and produced. The cast is extremely talented. The underlying themes are good vs. evil, man vs. nature, man vs. man, courage, the consequences (unintended or not) of our choices, etc. The basic premise is this: A plane out of Sydney, Australia, bound for Los Angeles, crashes on an island in the South Pacific (we assume anyway). But this is definitely not Gilligan's Island. Each person was destined to be on that island where they must face the "achilles heel" of their soul. Survival, being resourceful, sacrificing for others. Redemption is the overall message: Tabula Rasa (clean slate), starting over, forgiving others but mainly forgiving yourself. Now that, my friend, is worth watching

Lost is a great show. I like it so much that I refuse to watch it when it plays every week. I rather get the entire season on DVD, which allows me to jump right into the next episode. My wife hates when I do that, because I'm locked in our game room for an entire weekend with the local Pizza Hut on speed dial....aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!

That's how I got hooked. My sister gave me the first season of Lost on DVD last Christmas. I watched the whole thing twice by myself. Now I'm watching it again with my parents--and they're hooked. Then she gave me the second season the day it came out a few weeks ago. I'm in the middle of watching it for the second time. Last night was my first time to actually watch it "live" on television, commercials and all. I thought I would be spoiled w/the DVDs but I actually enjoyed it. Like you, give me a rainy day with my Lost DVDs and a mindless project (like laundry, etc.) and I'm a happy clam. Do you know of any local Lost junkies? I love discussing the show with people.

Ok, jaguar - Lost is like a Lord of the Flies with grownups. Somehow I just cannot see the hollywood idiots putting out anything that has a morality play without the PC portion killing it. Probably has a few token this or thats in it. But, again, with the recommendations on this list, I might break my solemn oath to never go below 25 on the TV dial and watch something from a network.. fubar

Fubar’s paraphrasing of Newton Minow has gone over most people’s heads and need to be explained.
Newton Minow was the chairman of the FCC in the early 60's and said that television was a vast wasteland.
Nobody has made the connection on the Talkboard:
That is why the producer’s of Gilligan’s Island named the boat the “Minnow.”
It was taking a swipe at the chairman of the FCC.
