I was just looking at UL's football schedule for 2007. Some pretty interesting games on taop for this year. Did anyone notice that they are playing South Carolina and Tennessee (their Homecoming) on the road? Also, there's a game against McNeese in Lafayette in Sept. as well.
This is my question...with a Division I NCAA school within the city, why doesn't Lafayette support the UL sports programs more? The local media doesn't offer much except for the occasional highlights or article in the paper.
Seems like there's more emphasis on high school athletics, which is fine with me, but I'd like to see UL get a little more exposure. Just my opinion.

If the administration (with no current Athletic Director) would hire competent coaches, every time, the fans would continue to come. Looks like in each major sport - football and basketball, each second coach is a looser. They got Howdy Doody for basketball who had no idea about playing defense and ran out many of the old fans from years ago, then they get Jesse who brought them back up, and now look what we have. The assistant coaches can't get out of here fast enough. They can't even get out the information as to the correct date for the senior banquet. It will surprise me if there are 500 fans in the Cajundome next year. Then look what we had in football prior to Bustle. One can say very little about it without being Imused to death, but he was a total incompetent who was being fired by LSU when Blanco ordered the school to hire him. It will take Bustle many more years to get us back close to were we were. No, I am afraid that major sports are dead or dying at UL. Fubar!

I think Ricky Bustle is a competent coach. I would like UL-Lafayette to play games at different times than LSU;Home games when LSU is on the road. We could get more attendance that way. I also think more games against traditional rivals such as McNeese would draw better. Who wants to see us kicked at tennessee or Auburn or Alabama, or LSU ? That will not encourage kids to play here, but more likely want to go to those schools. There are plenty of quality players in Louisiana and Bustle needs only to recruit a few to raise the bar. Look what Kevin Faulk did for LSU when they were in a down cycle. That was only one guy. ULL needs that one guy.
As for basketball;if Gonzaga can make it, so can ULL
