I would like to see another outside person (Dr Authemont was a LSU grad ) be brought in. I would want to see someone who could encourage research grants and other outside money for the school. USL is big enough as far as students, but needs to improve academics and this may be best achieved by bringing money to the school, using money to hire more professors and use less grad students to teach classes.
Promotion from within will hurt. That is the problem I see with for example, Lafayette police department . A new approach to the management of the department is needed, and that cannot be obtained by someone who is part of the system, who has preconceived notions, certain alliances and so forth. I would have preferred a deputy sheriff or state police officer head up LPD. I would like to see someone from University of Texas or A&M come in. They would be new to politics here, and bring a fresh approach.
Dr Authemont stayed about 5 years too long. He hurt his image with the land deal for the farm, which appeared to be a retirement deal for him, true or not, and his constant whining about LSU is getting old. Quit worrying about the other guys, just worry about yourself.

I heard it from a very good source at the Distinguished Professor Awards dinner last night that a deal has been brokered by the Blanco Administration to name Mike Neustrom as president with the understanding that Raymond Blanco would be given free reign to run the University. Time will tell.....

Well, why not. The man has managed to pretty well run down the Sheriff's Office, he and Blanco could do just as much damage to ULL. That is the problem with inbreeding.
