You can thank ALL of the administrations, including this one. All of the administrations refused to settle the case so now you have the back pay, interest, attorney fees and court costs.

All the Money they are spending in court for both fiber and fighting the Police and Fire pay could have paid the them a decent settlement and not owe 15 million

Let's see if I have this straight...The "City" hires an officer. The "City" fronts the officer state supplemental pay for his first year. When 12 months is up, the state pays the officer, so the City no longer has to front the money. The officer knows that the "City" is trying to help him financially by fronting the money...he (or she) came to work knowing that would be how it was done, yet.......
The officer now has one year of service, and is PROTECTED by civil service. He then reaches out and bites said hand for being nice, hires an assistant District Attorney as a litigator, sues the "City" in District Court, and upon prevailing in court, then accepts duplicate payment for "serving" the citizens who pay him.
Hmmmmmmmm, and yet another reason why we do not need duplicitous government.

well, the horses are a hit in N.O., La (just do not "hit" one), as well as New York. We want to be a big city, so why not? All they have to do is throw the horse manure in the flowerbeds along Jeff Street, will help the plants.

I think what would happen is when downtown alive starts again and you have some of the pristeen citizens there one of the horses will step on their foot and here we go, "law suit for the city". Then they will settle the suit and the horses will be gone.
I like the idea about the horse manure

Louisiana politics at its best, and yes despite what they would have us believe Lafayette is no better than anywhere else in this corrupt state. First they steal from underpaid police officers, then they spend millions to their lawyer friends to fight their wrongdoings. Now 15 million later who pays? You guessed it, the taxpayers again. Is there any wonder why people who were born and raised in Louisiana leave in droves. There is only so much dancing and drinking in the streets that can keep you here. PAY UP, and STOP stealing from the working class.

Good points on lawsuits. How many times have I watched and council members in their arrogant statments have said "let them sue us". Well people are standing up, BellSouth sued this government cause they did not want to follow the law. If this government would follow the law we taxpayers would not have to pay all these legal fees. However politicians say Bell is trying to delay project, no this government is delaying project cause they do not want to follow the law. Why should LUS telecom customers not pay taxes yet this government wants BellSouth customers to pay taxes? This is call unfair competition if LUS customers do not have to pay taxes than BellSouth customers should not pay taxes.

To steal from your own employees, and then sit up on a council claiming to do the right thing. Louis Benjamin/Chris Williams are always talking about "quality of life issues", however stealing from those whom protect us must not be a "quality of life issue". It is a shame when a council members salary/benefits(part time) are similar to that of a starting fireman.

It is part of our quest to become the New Orleans of the west. Someone (drive River Ranch) has tried hard to copy the feel of NO,LA by design; open air market, overpriced housing, narrow streets, small lots, lots of concrete, and little grass. Maybe we can move Mardi Gras there............

Do you remember when one of the store windows in that little market in River Ranch had their glass broken overnight by a criminal and the regsiter was stolen, several months back, the news media jumped on it like someone had robbed a bank. And of course right away they had the whole police force working on it to get the mass murderer Well thats not the first time thats happended in Lafayette and the media nor the upper class made a big deal about it but I guess there is not supposed to be crime in River Ranch!!!

well, remember when Sheriff (Dr)N said drugs were a northside problem, and soon afterwards, metro busted one of his children for possession? And of course, no more mention of drugs,(or for that matter his child's arrest). whatever happened to the child ? Charges dropped ? remember when a city police officer was "alledged" to have used his influence improperly to collect bad checks for a river ranch laundry and received personal benefit. He was also charged with performing security on city time for money. He was defended by an attorney who will go nameless, but i like to call Mr 98.9% (his ad) who swore that charges were false. Eventually written evidence was produced where officer proved himself guilty (I never said he was smart). What happened ? well.....he drew 6 months fully paid leave, then retired, and now works for river ranch (ring a bell ?) and draws full retirement from us, the taxpayers. And you wonder why River Ranch has so much attention from our policeforce ?

Why should I have to pay for the ineptitude of the City Marshall. He is included in the advanced pay fiasco. He is an independently elected official responsible for his own personnel (they are not Civil Service and serve at his pleasure). Why should the City of Lafayette be responsible for his deficiencies. If the advance on the POST monies was made to City Marshall personnel, it was made on his specific order. Why is he not held personally liable for his costs of the judgement
